투표, 지극히 이기적이어야 한다. 선거철이면 여지없이 '북한 타령'이 나온다. 북한 핵이나 미사일을 필두로 전쟁 위기를 지적하는 흐름이 주류를 이룬다. 한국은 전쟁 중인 국가다. 종전이 아닌 휴전 상태이기 때문이다. 이런 환경에서 전쟁 재개에 대한 우려는 뿌리 깊다. 6.25를 겪은 세대들이 생존해 있고, 중년-청년층만 해도 학창 시절 내내 반공 논리를 교육받았기 때문이다. 제 아무리 경제가 번영하더라도 전쟁이 발발하면 사회 전반은 파괴된다. 백을 잘 해도 하나를 못하면 모든걸 망친다는 논리에서 국가 리더의 안보관이 최우선 검증 대상이 돼야 함은 분명하다. 이 과정에서 우리는 진짜 안보와 '안보 팔이'를 구분할 줄 알아야 한다. 군필자로서, 그리고 해군 복무 중 1차 연평 해전을 겪은 입장에서 봤을 때 전쟁은 해서 이기는 것 보다 일어나지 않도록 하는 것이 가장 중요하다고 생각한다. 즉, 전쟁 억지력 발휘, 그리고 평화 상태로의 치환과 민간 교류를 통한 화해 분위기 창출, 평화 통일로의 나아감이 바람직한 수순인 것이다. 제아무리 남한과 미국의 군사력이 북한을 압도한다 한들, 전쟁은 양측 모두에게 심각한 상처를 다시 입힐 뿐이다. 그렇다면, 과연 '자칭' 보수는 대한민국을 전쟁의 위험에서 구할 수 있을까? 나는 아니라고 생각한다. 자칭 보수는 가짜 보수이기 때문이다. 그들을 가짜로 여기는 이유는 다음과 같다. 1974년 민청학련 사건과 1975년 인혁당 사건은 죄 없는 사람들에게 간첩 누명을 씌워 사형을 언도하고 집행한 희대의 사법 살인 사건이다. 당시 쿠테타로 집권한 유신 정권은 자신들의 낮은 정통성에서 시야를 돌리기 위해 무고한 민간인을 간첩으로 몰아 죽였다. 순진한 민초들은 '그래, 빨갱이는 죽여야 해'라며 술렁댔지만, 이 사건은 훗날 판사들이 뽑은 "우리나라 사법 사상 가장 수치스러운 재판"으로 꼽혔다. 사형된 억울한 분들이 명예 회복을 한 것은 30여년이나 흘러서였고, 그 동안 망자 뿐 아니라 그들의 가족까지 연좌제로 고통 받은 바 있다. 이 사건은 당시 중앙정보부에 근무하던 김기춘이 신직수 중정부장을 보좌하며 조작한 바 있다. 이 막대한 죄악에도 불구, 김기춘은 박근혜 정권 말기까지 권력에 기생하며 호사를 누린 바 있다. 자유당-민주공화당-민주정의당-민주자유당-신한국당-한나라당-새누리당에 이르는 자칭 보수들이 든든한 배후가 돼 줬기 때문이다. 간첩 조작 사건의 역사는 유구하다. 이승만 정권에 맞섰던 민족주의자 조봉암 선생 역시 1958년 사형을 당했으나, 대한민국 대법원은 2011년 1월 무죄를 선고하며 간신히 명예 회복에 이르렀다. 인혁당 사건 전, 박정희 정권하에서 자행된 또 다른 간첩 조작으로는 동백림 사건을 들 수 있다. 작곡가 고 윤이상씨를 비롯한 지식인들을 북한의 조종을 받은 간첩단으로 몰았던 사건인데, 39년이 지난 2006년에서야 무죄 판결을 받을 수 있었다. 이 밖에도 이중 간첩으로 몰려 처형된 이수근씨, 이수근을 도운 혐의로 21년을 복역한 처조카 배경옥씨, 제일동포 유학생 간첩단 조작 사건, 유럽 거점 간첩단 조작 사건, 문인 간첩단 조작 사건 등이 정통성이 허약한 박정희 정권 하에서 자행된 만행이다. 이런 경향은 전두환 정권 하에서도 꾸준히 나타났다. 민의에 의해 선출된 대통령이 아닌, 무력으로 집권한 태생적 한계 때문이다. 4인 일가족 간첩 조작, 납북 어부 이상철 간첩 조작, 전남 진도군 중림마을 고정 간첩단 사건 조작 등이 대표적 사례다. 1987년 6월 항쟁으로 시민들은 선거권을 가져왔다. 이후 간첩 조작 사건은 잠잠해 졌지만, 이명박정권 말기~박근혜정권 초기에 이르러 허약한 권력은 또 한번 간첩 조작에 손을 댄다. 바로 ‘서울시 공무원 간첩 사건’으로 알려 진 유우성씨 자매 간첩 조작 사건이다. 2013년 1월 기소된 유우성씨는 천신만고 끝에 2015년 10월 대법원 무죄 판결을 받아 냈다. 자칫 억울하게 묻힐 뻔 했지만, 시민 사회 단체와 양심 있는 언론이 집요하게 문제 제기를 했기에 가능한 일이었다. 간첩 조작뿐 아니라 평화의 댐 사기 사건, 선거 전 북한군에 총격을 요청한 총풍 사건 등 국민의 안보 의식을 교묘히 이용한 사례는 수두룩하다. 공통점은 지금의 자유 한국당의 뿌리인 정당에서 ‘보수’를 표방하며 일으킨 일들이라는 것이다. 이들이 누군가를 ‘빨갱이’로 몰아 부칠 자격이 있을까? 안보뿐 아니라 사회 안전망에 관해서도 이들 세력은 결코 대중의 편이 아니다. 노조 활동 자체를 적대시 하고, 최저 임금 인상을 죄악시 하는 세력. 왜 노조의 보호를 받아야 하는 저임금 노동자들이 이들을 편드는지 알 수 없는 일이다. 만약 유권자 본인이 어지간한 중소기업의 최대 주주라도 된다면, 자신에게 이익이 되는 선택이기 때문에 논리적으로 납득할 수 있을 일이다. 적어도 자유한국당 정권 하에서 평범한 노동자나 회사원의 생활이 개선되리라는 기대는 접는 편이 좋다. 투표는 몇 년간 나를 대변해 줄 수 있는 사람을 선택하는 행위다. 나는 나와 내 친구들의 부모가 늙고 병 들었을 때 국가가 책임져 준다는 공약을 하는 후보를 선택하겠다. 아이를 가지느라 지쳐 버린 부부들에게 난임 시술 지원을 확대하고 유아 교육 과정을 지원한다는 후보를 선택하겠다. 이것이 나의 합리적인 이기심이다. 나는 내 부모가 나와 같은 후보를 지지하는 것까지 바라지 않는다. 하지만 최소한 돼지 흥분제를 먹여 여성을 성폭행 하려 모의했던 사람을 지지하지 않길 바란다. 그리고 언제든 북한 타령을 하며 국민을 공포로 몰아넣을 수 있는 사람을 지지하지 않길 바랄 뿐이다. 10여년 전, 우리는 웰빙을 이야기 했었다. IMF국난을 간신히 이겨 낸 다음의 일이다. 그 시절을 ‘잃어버린 10년’이라고 입이 닳도록 탓한 두 정권을 겪으며, 우리는 헬조선을 이야기 한다. 부디 대구의 시민들이 최악의 선택을 하지 않길 바랄 뿐이다. 몇 년 전, 회사의 사장님이 내게 물었다. “대구는 원래 야도였는데, 요즘은 왜 극 보수 성향인가?”라고. 나는 알고 있었다. 사학과 출신인 그 분도 알고 물어 보셨을 것이다. 6.25 당시 경산 코발트 광산에서 민간인들을 인민군이라 누명 씌워 총살했던 보도연맹 사건 같은 것들이 있었고, 박정희 집권 시기에는 지역 감정을 태동시켰으며, 전두환 정권은 국보위에 지역 인사를 참여시키며 당근을 던졌다는 것을. 하지만 나는 이것들을 차마 말할 수 없었고, “글쎄요”라는 말만 할 수 밖에 없었다. 지역의 가장 부끄러운 역사라고 생각하기 때문이다. 유구한 역사의 빨간 색안경을 벗을 때가 왔다. ============================= 어제 우리 오마니가 카톡으로 '가짜 뉴스'를 보내시어 큰 충격을 받았습니다. 어떤 놈들이 무슨 의도로 그런 부채질을 하는지... 내내 너무 화가 나더라고요. 하지만 화 내기 보다 내 생각을 정리해 답장 하기로 결심했습니다. 열 받은 상태라서 글이 정제되진 않았지만, 그럭저럭 제 의중은 전달되리라 생각합니다. 비슷한 입장이신 분들이 써먹으실 수 있을 것 같아 게시판에 공유해 봅니다. 정성드린 글에 죄송스런 댓글이긴 합니다만 사람은 대부분 사실관계를 따지기 보다는 감정적으로 대응하게 마련이죠..
빨갱이,종북,좌파는 나쁘다고 오랜 세월동안 인식되고 반복되어 들어서 결국에는 그게 진실인 것처럼 배워온 사람들이라 자신들이 가지고 있는, 고정관념이 된 생각을 깨기는 쉽지 않을겁니다. 저는 tk,pk지역 사람은 아니지만 보수성향이 강한 지역에서 3x년간 살아왔는데 제가 사실관계를 일일이 열거하며 이게 왜 잘못된 거냐고 물어보면 돌아오는 대답은 '너 이놈의 자식, 빨갱이새끼였냐'는 말이더라구요..
저는 이랬었지만.. 어쨋건간에 pully님의 노력이 결실을 맺길 바래봅니다.
