어느새 5년 된 글이네요 ( '-')a 첨삭은 거의 안 했습니다 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ +) 딱히 가치판단 없이 쓰는 것이니 성을 사고 파는 것이나 처첩을 둔다거나 하는 것에 거부감을 느끼신다면 뒤로가기를 눌러주세요. 거기다 결론은 남존여비이니... 이것도 감안하셔야 되구요. +) 아니 그보다 10대 분들이 이걸 봐도 될까 생각은 하지만 이거야 말 그대로 문화 설명이니 -_-a 괜찮...겠죠? 숙종 45년(1719), 조선에서는 도쿠가와 요시무네 8대 쇼군의 취임을 축하하기 위해 통신사를 파견합니다. 이 중 제술관(기록 담당)인 신유한은 일본에서 많은 문화 충격을 느꼈고, 다녀와서 '해유록'을 남기며 그걸 상세히 적어놓았습니다. 이 중에서 역시 땡기는 부분은 성에 관련된 거였죠. (...) 그는 처음 유곽에 들어가면서 매춘에 충격먹었고, 이런 일본의 성 풍속을 남깁니다. 다만 이게 유곽에서 하는 건데 일본이 다 그런다고 생각해 버렸죠. 당시 조선은 고려때부터 이어진 관기가 주류였고, (즉 여자를 사는 게 아니라 이 일을 맡은 -_-; 여자들이 시중드는 것) 주점 등에서 사적으로 성을 사고파는 창기는 그리 많지 않았습니다. 개화기 때부터 일제강점기까지 유곽이 한국에 들어온 것이죠. 이 때 그는 "낭화여아곡"이라 이름 붙인 오언절구를 30수 모읍니다. 주로 유녀들이 마음에 든 낭군을 그리워 하거나 자신의 처지를 한탄하는 시들이었죠. 하지만 그에게 더 큰 충격을 먹인 것이 있으니... 자 본론 들어가겠습니다. +) 해유록엔 기타 재밌는 것도 많습니다. 조선이 일본가지고 맨날 왜니 오랑캐니 하니까 상처 받았다고 하소연하는 말부터 훈민정음 자랑하는 것 등등이요. '-'a ------------------------------------------------------------- "남경의 그림비단 조선의 모시 / 그림 박은 경대는 8촌이 넘네 / 청루에 가서 춘색을 취하지 않고 / 그대의 눈썹과 볼에 비추어 그대의 옷을 짓네" 낭화여아곡 뒤에 그는 칠언절구 10수를 넣었는데, 그 이름하야 남창사(男唱詞)입니다. 그냥 보면 저 시의 내용은 그냥 사랑하는 사람에게 보내는 시일 뿐입니다. 문제는... 그 대상이 달랐다는 거죠. 그는 이 충격을 서문에 적어놓습니다. "이것은 정욕 중에도 특이한 경지로서 정, 위의 세상에서도 듣지못하던 것이니 한나라 애제가 동현에게 하던 짓을 역사에 나무란 것이 곧 이것이던가?" 한나라 애제에게는 동현이라는 남첩이 있었고 그를 아꼈다고 하는데... 바로 여기에 비유한 것이죠. 그는 아메노모리 호슈라는 이에게 (그가 남긴 글에는 '왼쪽에는 붉은 치마요, 오른쪽에는 어여쁜 총각이다'라는 부분이 있었죠) 이걸 따져물으며 이렇게 말합니다. "남녀의 정욕은 본래 천지 음양의 이치에서 나온 것이니, (중략) 어찌 양만 있고 음은 없이 서로 느끼고 좋아할 수 있는 것이오?" 호슈의 대답은... "학사께서는 아직 그 즐거움을 알지 못 하는 모양입니다." 시작해보죠. ^-^ --------------------------------------------------------------- "세상에서 들어보지도 못한 특이한 짓거리! (중략) 나이가 13~14세에서 28세 된 미남자들의 아리따움이 여자보다도 더 곱다." 일본 남색 문화의 기원은 보통 14세기로 잡습니다. 다만 사무라이들끼리는 막 일본서기에도 그 흔적이 남아 있다느니 하면서 가마쿠라 시대까지로 잡기도 하죠. (...) 일단 통설 전자 쪽으로 얘기해 보겠습니다. 그 시작은 어이없게, 혹은 이해 가능-_-;하게 절이었습니다. 절은 금녀구역이었죠. 정욕을 품지 말라는 거였는데 -_-; 대신에 다른 이들로 눈을 돌립니다. 소년들이었죠. 지고와카슈(稚児若衆)라 불린 이들이었습니다. 사음계, 음란한 짓을 하지 말라는 계율은 아무 쓸모 없었습니다. 거기에 남자와 하는 건 들어가 있지 않았거든요. (...) 불교 내에서도 이를 막기는커녕 "이건 업으로 자각하지 못하면 마음이 안정될 수 없다", "번뇌즉보리, 색즉시공"는 식으로 설교합니다. 이것이 슈도(衆道), 중생의 도리(...)입니다. 불교가 민중화되면서, 이것 역시 널리 아주 너얼리 퍼집니다. 서민들까지도요. 유곽에서도 여자보다 미소년을 찾을 정도였죠. 특히 무사들에게 이건 꽤 크게 다가옵니다. 이들의 생각은 근본적으로 따지면 그리스시대의 생각과 비슷하죠. 여자와의 사랑은 난잡하고 불순하고 (애 낳기 위한 것일 뿐이고 -_-;) 남자와의 사랑이 더 고귀한 것이라는 거였습니다. 여기다 하나 더, 하극상이 일상이던 전국시대로 가면서 주군과 가신을 묶을 가치가 더 필요했던 것이죠. 바로 사랑이요 -_-; "맹형이 없는 와카슈는 청혼을 받지 못한 아가씨와 다를 바가 없다." 여기서 와카슈는 관례를 치르기 전 앞머리가 있는 소년을 뜻합니다. 이들은 나이 든 이들과 맹형, 맹제를 맺었죠. 그것을 위해 외모를 갈고 닦았고, 얼굴이 영 아닌 이들은 마음을 얻기 위해 이런저런 잡기를 배웁니다 - -; 무사들의 경우 여기에 하나 더 요구하는 게 있었습니다. 사랑하는 주군을 지키기 위한 무예 실력부터 이들의 최측근으로 적을 암살할 수 있는 인술(닌자의 기술) 비스무리한 것도 배워야 했죠. 이런 어린 시동들이 무사의 최측근으로 있었고 유사시 목숨을 걸고 그를 지키는 역할을 맡게 됩니다. 특히 여자 대신 무사들의 시중(식사, 청소부터 전투, 밤시중까지)을 맡은 것이 코쇼(小姓), 이들은 커서도 중요한 직책을 맡게 되죠. 이런 예쁜 애들을 미동이라고도 했구요. ------------------------------------------------------------------ "남색에 빠지는 것이 여자보다도 배나 더 하며 귀족, 부호들은 보물을 아끼지 않고 그들을 기른다. 참으로 해괴한 풍습이로다." 유명한 사람들부터 찾아가보죠 뭐. '-') 역시 시작은 오다 노부나가, 그의 코쇼로 유명한 사람들이 있죠. 첫째는 마에다 토시이에, 14세의 나이로 코쇼가 됐습니다. "창의 마타자"라는 별명만큼의 용맹과 그 시대답지 않은 의리로 유명합니다. 노부나가도 그를 참 아꼈죠. 아즈치성 완공기념 연회에서 노부나가는 그에게 "너는 나의 귀염둥이"(...)라고 말 했다고 합니다. 참고로 그는 1539년생으로 아즈치성 완공은 1583년, 꽤나 나이들었을 때였어요. =_=; 어릴 때 귀여워해주던 게 남았던 모양입니다.  뭇 녀성(그리고 남성?) 쇼타콘들의 가슴을 설레게 하는 전국무쌍의 란마루 (...) 하지만 가장 유명한 건 혼노지에서 같이 죽은 모리 란마루입니다. 그는 그 총애만큼 능력도 있었다고 하죠. 하사받은 영지만 6만석이었습니다. (그리 많은 양은 아니지만 그는 일개 시종이었죠) 그 나름의 재치와 능력도 있었고, 이를 통해 그 상대하기 어려운 노부나가의 총애를 얻을 수 있었습니다. 이런 대화도 있죠. "나에게는 천하에도 대신하기 어려운 비장의 것이 있어. 뭔지 알아?" "시라타카(지역 이름)입니까? "노노. 살아있는 거야." "혹시, 저 말입니까?" ... 노부나가는 웃었다고 합니다. 아우 뭐야 ㅠㅠ;;; 결국 그는 혼노지의 변에서 노부나가의 곁에서 끝까지 싸웠고, 같이 죽었죠. ------------------------------------------------------- "왜인들은 자기들의 처에게는 질투하지 아니하면서도, 남창에게는 질투하여 사람을 죽이는 자까지 있다." 노부나가가 그렇게 무서워했다는 다케다 신겐, 그의 인생 역시 배신과 공포로 점철돼 있습니다. 그랬는데... 그가 22세 때 야시치로라는 시종을 건드리니 그의 코쇼가 화를 냈고, 이런 편지를 썼다고 합니다. "내가 과거에 야시치로에게 구애했던 적은 있지만, 야시치로는 복통을 이유로 거절했어. 지금까지 야시치로와 한 적 없어. 낮에도 밤에도 그런 일은 없었어. 하물며 오늘 밤 그런 걸 했을 리가 없잖아. 너랑 하고 싶어서 이런저런 생각(뭔 생각 -.-)하고 있었는데 니가 갑자기 의심하면 곤란해. 거짓말 아냐. 진짜야." "만약 거짓말이라면 카이의 1, 2, 3 대명, 후지산, 하쿠산, 하치만대보살(무사를 수호해주죠), 스와 상하대명의 벌을 받을 거야.(그냥 여러 신들이 벌 내릴 거다고 생각하시면 됩니다) 아 이거 정식으로 서약하는 종이에 써야 되는 건 아는데, 심부름꾼의 눈도 있고 하니 그냥 보통 종이에 썼어. 다음에는 반드시 정식으로 쓸게." ......................... 도쿄대 사료편찬소에 남아 있는 편지입니다.  "주군은 제가 왜 화가 났는지 모르십니까? 알면서 그러셨습니까? 지금 제게 화내는 겁니까?" 그 대상은 고사카 마사노부, 당시 16세였습니다. 그는 훌륭하게 자라고 빠르게 출세해 다케다 4명신의 하나로 분류됐고, 다케다 신겐의 군략을 다룬 갑양(코요)군감을 남깁니다. 그의 라이벌이자 자식이 없었던 (위의 두 인물은 처첩도 많고 자식도 많죠) 우에스기 겐신은 정말 동성애자였다는 의혹도 받고 있습니다. 그의 대상은 호조씨와의 동맹에서 인질로 받은 호조 우지히데, 겐신은 그를 아끼는 수준을 넘어 가게토라라는 이름을 주며 후계자로 삼으려 했다고 합니다. 다만 지금은 별개의 인물이라는 설도 있더군요. 뭐 겐신이야 여자설도 있습니다 -.-a 다테 마사무네 역시 있죠. 오사카 전투에서 선봉에 서고 싶어했던 가타쿠라 시게쓰나를 달래며 뽀뽀(뺨에-.-)해줬다는 기록이 있으며 코쇼인 타다노 사쿠쥬로에게 "젊었을 때는 몸에 상처를 내서 내 맘을 증명해 보이기라도 했는데 이제 그런 짓까진 못 하겠다. 대체 어떻게 하면 내 마음을 알아줄래?" "뽀뽀한 거 절대 바람핀 거 아니야. 걱정 말라고 ㅠㅠ"(설마 시게쓰나한테 한 게 들켜서?)라는 식의 편지가 남아 있죠. 여기서 또 웃긴 부분이 있습니다. 무사들은 전쟁에 나가기 3일 전에는 여자와의 성행위를 금지했고, 임산부는 출진에 관련된 물건을 만지면 안 됐으며 출산 후 1개월 동안에도 여시 가까이 하면 안 됐습니다. ... 그리고 그 역할을 코쇼들이 해 줍니다. -_-; 음기를 가까이 하면 안 되니 대신 양기를... 뭐 이런 거였죠. (...) +) 막부의 신선조들간의 사랑과 질투 이야기를 다룬 고하토. 미소년 하나 들어오니까 서로 차지하려고 싸웠다고 합니다. 다만 픽션이라는 게 대세인 듯 하네요. 이들과의 사랑을 다룬 슈도문학도 활발히 전개됐고, 신유한이 본 것도 그것들이었죠. 이후 18세기 말에 다시 철저히 남색을 막았고, 메이지 유신 이후인 1873년에는 아예 남자끼리의 섹스 자체를 법적으로 금지하게 됩니다. 나중에는 없어지긴 하는데 그래도 기본적으로 금지됐고, 기독교 등 서양의 가치가 계속 들어오면서 사라져 갔죠. -------------------------------------------------------- 참... 뭐랄까요. -_-a 신기하죠? 이렇게 남색을 즐긴 이들이 동성애자이진 않을 겁니다. 뭐 게이도 취향이 다르긴 하겠지만 일본의 슈도문화는 남자가 여자처럼 꾸미고 여자 역할을 하는 거니까요. 다들 처첩과 자식들이 있었고, 사랑했던 여자에 대한 얘기들도 어렵지 않게 찾아볼 수 있구요. 다 커서까지도 끝까지 사랑한 케이스가 딱히 있는 것도 아니구요. 역시 여자는 천하고 남자가 귀하다는 (그리스와도 딱 맞아떨어지는) 생각과 이렇게 맺어진 유대관계가 정말 강했다는 것 때문이겠죠. 조선인과 서양인들의 눈으로 보면 이뭐;;;였겠지만요. 아무튼 참 신기한 나라긴 해요.  이런 나라에서 야오이, 요세는 bl이라 하는 장르가 나온 건 우연이 아니겠죠. 수(-_-)는 성만 남자일 뿐 여자나 다름 없는 외모나 역할이라는 점에서 봐도요. 뭐 이것도 취향 차이가 있겠지만... 여기까지. 뭐 이런 게 나오는 생각의 배경은 역사 속에서 나온 것과는 크게 다르겠지만, 그래도 이런 것에 관대한 역사가 있기에 나올 수 있었지 않나 싶습니다. 자, 더 위험해지기 전에 여기까지. -_-a 일본 오락프로 '학교에 가자' -> '여장 파라다이스 코너'에 나왔던 히다카 료헤이 그 외에도 남자가 여장하는 거에도 관대하구요. 크로스 드레서 말이죠. 건강하게 크기 위해선 어릴 때 여자처럼 키워야 된다는 속설도 있는 모양이더군요. 아예 tv 정규 프로그램으로 인기를 끌었을 정도니 '-') 일본의 남색 문화는 꽤 오랫동안 이어졌고, 정말 광범위했습니다. 그렇다고 이게 현대의 동성애와 바로 연결되느냐 하면 그런 건 또 아니었죠. (이런 거야 어느나라든 아주 비밀리에 이어졌겠죠) 역할의 차이는 곧 지위의 차이였고 그 역은 없었으니까요. 그리스 역시 이건 마찬가지였구요. 남자 대 남자끼리의 사랑이 아닌 여자를 대신한 어리고 지위 낮은 남자와의 사랑이었죠. 이런 점에서 역시 근본 배경은 남존여비구나 하는 씁쓸함도 있구요. +) 이 글 썼을 때 이렇게 남색 문화와 동성애는 다르다고 결론내렸는데, 그에 대한 지적을 들었었습니다. 철학자 미셸 푸코의 주장이었는데요. 결국 똑같이 동성 좋아하는 건데 일부러 동성애자를 분리해서 일반인과 다른 종 취급을 한다는 거였습니다. 일단 본문은 그대로 갔지만, 생각해 봐야 될 문제죠. 어떻게 볼 지는 사람마다 다르겠지만, 어쨌든 참 특이한 문화입니다. 이상입니다.
