연평해전이 요즘 개봉작 중에서는 화제지만, 정신교육 2시간 듣고 왔다는 후기들을 본 후라 딱히 볼 생각은 없는 영화였습니다. 제가 마지막으로 보고 운 영화가 2002년작 <집으로> 인데, 여자친구가 연평해전이 슬프다는 이야기를 듣고 저를 울리겠다는 목표를 설정하는 바람에; 갑자기 관람하게 되었습니다. 영화를 파고들어서 분석하는 성격은 아니라 그냥 영알못의 눈으로 느낌만 적어볼까 합니다. 1. 초중반은 부대원들의 인간관계를 보여주는 것에 대부분이 할애됩니다. 가족관계는 어떠한지, 부대원간의 관계는 어떠한지, 심리상태는 어떠한지, 성격은 어떠한지.. 다만 단편적으로 휙휙 넘어가는 느낌이 강해 지루할 수 있겠다는 생각이 들었고 많은 부대원들 가운데 윤영하 대위(김무열), 한상국 하사(진구), 박동혁 상병(이현우) 3명을 제외하면 누가 누구인지 잠깐 이름과 직책만 언급되는 정도로만 그쳤습니다. 영화 후반에서도 3명 중심으로 흘러가겠구나, 하는 예상을 할 수 있었습니다. 2. 전투신은 예상보다 별로였습니다. 많은 혹평들에 걱정한 CG는 생각보다 괜찮았습니다만 조타장인 한상국 하사가 총을 대여섯발 맞고도 일어나는(판타지인가요?) 모습, 키에 손을 묶으며 '너네는 내가 데려갈거야..' 라고 말하는 것이 억지로 울리려고 작정했다는 느낌이 들게 했습니다. 그리고 전투신 전반이 위에 언급한 3명에 초점이 맞춰지다 보니 그 외의 사람들은 쩌리의 느낌이 강하게 들었습니다. 저는 다리가 절단된 채로 지휘를 감행했던 이휘완 중위(지금도 복무하고 계신다고 들었습니다)가 영화보다 10배 쯤은 부각되야 한다고 생각합니다. 그 외 이름도 기억나지 않는 병사들은 총과 포탄을 맞고 쓰러져 신음하는 모습밖에 기억나지 않는군요. 북한군은 우수수 쓰러지기는 하지만 어디서 계속 나오는 것인지 개미굴에서 나오는 개미떼처럼 전투신 내내 갑판으로 올라오고 우수수 쓰러집니다. 배 위에서 저격용 라이플을 쏴대며 백발백중을 자랑하던 북한군 저격수는 아마 연출이겠지만 방아쇠를 당길 때마다 영화관의 사람들이 한탄을 하던 것을 보아 성공한 것 같습니다. 3. 영화의 후반부에는 실제 뉴스들과 진짜 유가족들이 장례식에서 오열하는 모습 등을 보여줍니다. 감독 인터뷰를 보니 연기로는 뽑아낼 수 없는 감정이라 반대에도 불구하고 집어넣었다고 합니다. 여기서 사람들이 제일 많이 울었습니다. 실제에 기반한 영화라고 해도 와닿지 않는 영화들이 많은데, 유가족들이 혼절하고 비틀거리며 국화를 놓는 모습 과 2002년 당시 월드컵에 묻혀 메인뉴스가 되지 못했던 당시 상황이 그대로 나오니까 충격을 받은 사람들이 많은 것 같네요. 엔딩크레딧과 함께 나오는 실제 부대원들의 인터뷰 또한 눈물샘을 자극하기엔 충분했습니다. '아직도 그때 전투하던 꿈을 꾼다', '살아남아서 미안하다', '보고싶습니다..' 연기자들이 했다면 너무도 뻔한 멘트들이지만 실제 전투를 겪은 부대원들이 울음을 꾹 참는 표정으로 담담하게 말하는 모습에 저도 울 뻔했습니다. 4. 아쉬운 점 몇가지로는 1) 제가 알기로 당시 358정장은 여자가 아닌데 굳이 여자 대위를 집어넣을 필요가 있었나 생각이 듭니다. 러브라인도 아니고 전투 때 도움을 주는 것도 아니고, 단순한 임관동기로 나오는데 왜 여자로 설정했나 궁금하네요. 2) 박동혁 상병을 괴롭히던 병장(이름이 기억 안나는..) 역시 왜 집어넣었는지 잘 모르겠습니다. 실제 인물을 기반으로 했을텐데 대놓고 박동혁 상병을 괴롭히는 모습과 전투당시 내무반에 숨어서 벌벌 떨다가 박동혁 상병에서 뺨싸다구를 맞는 장면은 차라리 없는 것이 나았다고 생각합니다. 중간에 윤영하 대위가 병사들 신상명세서를 보다가 그 병장에게 어머니가 없다는 사실이 나오는데, 이 사실로 박동혁 상병을 마마보이라고 칭하며 괴롭히는 모습과 연관시키기에는 연관성도 적고요. 3) 감청부대에서 감청결과를 올렸을 때 군 수뇌부에서 3차례나 묵살했다는 당시 감청부대장의 인터뷰를 봤습니다. 이 감청결과를 인지하고 있었으면 이런 피해는 없었을 것이라고 하더군요. 이 사실을 더 자세히 집어넣었다면 안타까움이 배가 되었을 것 같습니다. 4) 가장 중요한 사실인데, 영화만을 봐서는 제2연평해전이 어떤 전투였는지 잘 모르겠습니다. 제가 배경지식 없이 영화만 보고 나왔다면 '이런 병신같은 교전수칙 때문에 북한한테 떡발렸네. 전투기 뜨던데 전투기는 뭐한거야? 옆에 358은 뭐했어? 대한민국 군대 쯧쯧' 라고 생각했을 겁니다. 엄연한 승전인데 우리 대원들이 총맞고 신음하는 장면이 90%고 북한군은 그 작은 배에 몇명이 타고 있는지 전투 막바지까지 갑판으로 인원보충이 됩니다. 제 여자친구도 영화 끝나고 '그럼 우리나라가 진거야?'라고 묻는 걸 보니 영화가 안타까운 죽음에 초점을 맞추다가 정작 중요한 것을 놓쳤다는 생각이 듭니다. 월드컵 응원 장면 몇 개만 뺐어도 됐을 걸. 5. 전체적으로 역시 저를 울리기에는 부족했고 정신교육 받는 느낌이 강했지만 성과가 있다면 어제 영화를 보고 나온 이후 여자친구가 위키 블로그 뉴스를 다 뒤지면서 북한의 대남 도발사를 섭렵하고 있습니다. 한국사 배울때 간단하게만 들었다던 판문점 도끼만행사건이나 강릉 무장공비 침투사건 등을 주석까지 파헤치면서 어제 3시간을 설명해줘야 했습니다. GP GOP도 구별 못하고 사단-연대-대대-중대-소대-분대 개념을 설명하려 하면 아!!!!!몰라 머가 그렇게 복잡해 재미없어!! 그래서 부대가 어디냐고!! 를 외치던 여자입니다. 4년 연애중 처음으로 '그럼 오빠는 수색대대라며, 그게 뭐하는 건데?' 를 물어봐 주었습니다. (ㅠㅠ) 사실 저도 비무장지대에서 매복하면 절반은 잠들었습니다만.. 어쨌든 안죽고 무사히 전역한 것만으로도 감사하게 되는 영화였던 것 같네요. 여자친구는 물론 제가 매복지에서 꿀잠자던 사실은 모르고 [12시간 내내 신경을 곤두세워 눈과 귀를 열고 북한군의 예상 침투경로를 향해 총구를 겨누던 모습]만 상상하기 때문에, 여자친구에게 무사히 전역해줘서 고맙다고 뽀뽀도 받았습니다. 예비역여러분, 여자친구 데리고 연평해전 보러 가세요. 개이득입니다. 없으면 죄송합니다.
