앞서 설명드린 1편에 이어 2편입니다. 우선 항공기에 대해 이것저것 얘기를 해봤는데 정확히 어떻게 분류를 하는지, 그리고 조종사 자격과 관련하여 설명해보겠습니다. 1. 우선 항공기는 크게 Category, Class, type 이 3단계를 거쳐서 생각해볼 수 있습니다. 카테고리는 대분류, 클래스는 중분류, 타입은 소분류라고 할 수 있겠네요. 카테고리를 우선 보면 비행기(airplane), 회전익(rotorcraft), 공기부양체(Lighter than air), 활공기(glider), weight shift control, powered parachute(딱히 우리말로 생각이 나지 않아서 영어로 기술합니다..) 등이 있습니다. 각각의 특징은 Class편을 보면서 설명을 해볼께요. 비행기(airplane)의 클래스는 크게 4단계로 나뉘는데 우선 단발 육상 비행기 - ASEL(Airplane Single Engine Land)입니다. 엔진 하나짜리로 육상용입니다. 그림을 첨부하고 싶은데 그림 업로드 하는 법을 모르는 컴맹이라 죄송하네요 ㅠㅠ 왜 첨부하는 방법을 나는 모르는가.. 컴알못이네요.. 대표적인 ASEL 비행기는 C172가 있습니다. 구글링해서 이미지 찾아보시면 됩니다. 컴맹이라 죄송합니다. 엔진이 어딨냐? 하시는 분들은 프로펠러를 보시면 알 수 있죠. 프로펠러를 돌려주는게 엔진이기 때문에 프로펠러 1개짜리 비행기들은 싱글엔진이라고 보시면 됩니다. 다음은 다발 육상 비행기 - AMEL(Airplane Multi Engine Land)입니다. 엔진 2개 이상으로 육상용이죠. 가벼운 멀티엔진 비행기부터 Heavy Jet까지 모두 해당됩니다. 대표적인 예로는 B737, B747, A380부터 PA34, PA44 등이 있습니다. 역시 이미지를 찾아봐주시면 감사하겠습니다. ㅠㅠ 세번째, 네번째는 ASES(AIRPLANE SINGLE ENGINE SEA), AMES(AIRPLANE MULTI ENGINE SEA)입니다. 각각 수상용으로 랜딩기어 대신 플로팅할 수 있는 장비를 갖추거나 비행기의 배 부분으로 내리죠. TYPE은 각각의 비행기를 말합니다. 예를 들어 설명하면 B737 이라는 대표적인 비행기는 다음과 같이 분류할 수 있죠. CATEGORY : AIRPLANE, CLASS : AIRPLANE MULTI ENGINE LAND, TYPE : B737입니다. 회전익 비행기(ROTORCRAFT)는 크게 6가지 클래스를 가집니다. 제일먼저 우리가 생각하는 헬리콥터가 있구요, 또 CYCROGYRO라고 씨누크 헬기같은 종류가 있고.. 또 GYROPLANE(꼬리부분이 비행기처럼 생겼습니다.)도 있구요. 사실 저는 ROTORCRAFT쪽은 자격이 없어서 정확히 어떤 분류를 하는지 모르겠네요. LIGHTER THAN AIR는 크게 2종류 CLASS로 비행선(AIRSHIP)과 기구(BALLOON)가 있습니다. 다른 카테고리 부분은 저도 몰라서 그런게 있다고만 알지,, 어떻게 교육을 받아 자격을 취득하는지 몰라서 설명을 못드리겠네요. 보통 비행기 조종사 자격의 취득은 가격적인 절감을 이유로 싱글엔진 육상용 ASEL을 먼저 배우게 됩니다. 그래서 PPL자격을 취득할 때 ASEL으로 얻게 되죠. 이후 직업조종사의 길을 걷겠다고 생각하시는 분은 사업용 조종사 CPL자격을 취득하고 또한 AMEL 배우면 되겠습니다. 운송용항공기는 거의 모두 AMEL 항공기 이기 때문에 AMEL은 반드시 필요하며 회사에 고용되어 임금을 받으려면 CPL 자격이 필요하죠. 2. 앞서 설명드린바에 추가적으로 대형 비행기들은 단순히 AMEL 자격이 있다고 해서 바로 조종을 할 수 있는 것이 아니라 제약이 있습니다. 12500LB(파운드)의 이상의 무게를 지니거나, 비행기가 2PILOT 이상 요구하거나, JET 엔진으로 구동되는 비행기는 각각의 개별 비행기 면허를 추가적으로 취득해야합니다. 이를 TYPE RATING이라고 부릅니다.(이 TYPE RATING의 기준은 각각의 나라별로 기준이 약간씩 상이하나 대동소이합니다.) 대한항공 기장님이라고 해도 TYPE RATING은 많이 가지고 있지 않으십니다. A380이면 A380, B737이면 B737 이런식이며 처음부터 끝까지 B737만 타거나 A320만 타는 분들도 있죠. 아는 기장님 한분은 RATING이 3개(B737, B777, A320)이십니다. B737 부기장이셨다 B777 부기장 하시다 A320기장 으로, 그렇다고 해서 B737이나 B777을 언제든지 조종이 가능하냐?라면 한동안 그 기종에 대해 조종을 하지 않았으므로 RECURRENT TRAING을 밟아야 다시 조종을 할 수 있습니다. 여러모로 훈련이 지속적으로 이루워져야하며 에어라인 조종사들은 6개월에 한번씩 정기심사를 거치므로 자격유지를 하기 위해 굉장히 많은 노력을 합니다. 너무 비행기타는데 괜히 겁먹으실 필요 없으십니다. 3. 전편의 마지막문단에 남긴 부분에서 답이 왜 YES 이자 NO인가는 2번항을 보시면 이해가 되실겁니다. 다음편은 공항에 관해 쓸 생각인데....(?) 재밌게 봐주셨음 하네요. 역시 어렵다고 느끼시면 질문남기면 답해드릴 수 있는 한도내에서 설명드릴께요.
