1. 중학교 3학년 수업시간이었어요. 그때 우리 반은 무난하게 인문계로 갈 수 있는 사람들, 상공고 진학 희망자들, 인문계 진학을 희망하지만 좀 간당간당한 사람들 이렇게 세 파트로 구역을 나눠서 앉아서 수업을 들었죠. 기술시간이 되었습니다. 기술선생님이 교실에 들어오더니 저를 보고, "넌 공부를 더럽게 못하게 생겼는데 왜 거기 앉아있냐." 뭐 저는 당시에 친한 친구들로 부터 왜 이따구로 생겼냐 라는 말을 많이 듣곤 했었습니다. 2.고등학교때 별명이 '띠리리'였어요. 영구가 부르는 그 띠리리리리리~♪ 에서 유래된 별명이죠. 영구같이 못생겼다와 차마 말로 표현 못하는 띠리리~같이 생겼다의 중의적인 느낌이 강했죠. 아마 제가 중고등학교때 성격이 많이 소심하고, 운동을 잘 못했다면 분명 왕따를 당했을거라는 생각이 듭니다. 덩치까지 작으니까 딱이었죠. 3. 대인공포증이 당연히 있었죠. 고등학교 때 햐굣길 버스나 지하철엔 사람이 꽤나 많은 편이었는데 사람이 조금이라도 많으면 타지 않으려고 했었어요. 그래서 버스나 지하철을 몇 번이나 보내곤 했었죠. 친구들이랑 같이 우리집에 놀러가는데 버스에 사람이 많았어요. 그래도 친구들이랑 타니까 괜찮지 않을까 했었는데 절로 고개가 숙여지더군요. 그래서 친구들 등뒤에 얼굴을 묻고 집에 갔습니다. 4. 당시 가장 큰 이유는 얼굴에 막 이것저것 많이 났었기 때문이에요. 여드름도 여드름이지만 잘못된 대처로 얼굴이 엉망진창이 되었죠. 특히 얼굴을 무조건 건조해야 하는 줄 알고, 제 피부타입도 제대로 모르고 무조건 건조하게만 했었어요. 건선도 생기고 난리가 아니었죠. 그리고 얼굴이 지금보다 훨씬 동그랬어요. 젖살이 안빠진거죠. 거기다가 제가 아빠를 닮아서 수염이 엄청 얼굴에 많았어요. 예전엔 아침에 면도하면 저녁에 거뭇거뭇해졌었죠. 고등학교땐 면도는 안했지만 수염이 확 티가 날 정도로 많긴 했었죠. 5. 몇 해가 지나고 계속 고통을 경험해 보니 유난히 여름에 피부 상태가 양호해지는 것을 눈치챘어요. 얼굴이 당기는 게 안좋다는 것을 느끼기 시작한거죠. 그래서 그동안 실수했다는 것을 알았어요. 수분을 보충하기 시작한거죠. 그게 20대 중반입니다. 그리고 피부가 좀 괜찮아지자 얼굴 제모를 했어요. 약 10회. 진짜 아파서 중간에 포기할까 했는데 정말 간절했습니다. 수염이 너무 많은 것은 보기에도 안좋지만, 면도하면서 얼굴 자극해 대는 것이 더 기분 안좋게 만들었거든요.10회후에도 완벽히 다 제모가 된 건 아니지만, 제모마치고 난 바로 직후엔 1주일에 한 번, 요즘은 1주일에 2~3번 정도 면도 합니다. 제 여동생은 제모를 정말 잘했다고 하더군요. 6. 20대 후반에 피부가 완전히 좋아졌어요. 물론 꿀피부라고 하기엔 턱없이 모자라지만 그래도 피부 때문에 고생했던 학창시절 생각하면 눈물이 날 정도죠. 수분크림을 적극적으로 쓰면서 특히 더 나아진 것 같아요. 그리고 드디어 얼굴 젖살이 빠지기 시작했습니다. 그리고 30살때 젖살이 다 빠졌(다고 느끼게 됐)어요. 물론 그래도 얼굴이 대따시만하지만... 외모때문에 생긴 트라우마가 굉장히 커요. 저는 아직까지도 제 얼굴에 무의식적으로 제 손 대는 것에도 깜짝깜짝 놀랍니다. 아직도 민감하거든요. 그래도 요즘보면 많이 극복해가고 있다는 생각을 합니다. 그것을 확인하기 위해 진짜 미친짓인 인증도 해보는 거구요. 인증할 땐 술이 들어간 상태입니다. 언젠간 제정신으로 할 날이 오겠지요.
