애플이 향후 아이폰에서 물리적인 홈 버튼을 제거할 수도 있다는 보도가 나왔습니다. 당장은 아니고 좀 시간이 걸리겠지만 이러한 방향으로 연구 개발을 하고 있다고 합니다. 사실 아이폰이나 아이패드의 둥근 홈 버튼은 애플 제품의 상징처럼 여겨져 왔는데 이를 없애겠다고 하는 것은 꽤나 과감한 시도일 것 같다는 생각입니다. 이러한 보도들이 맞는다면 아이폰의 홈 버튼은 초기의 안으로 좀 들어가고 가운데 네모난 문양(?)이 있던 홈 버튼에서 현재의 평평하고 안에 아무런 문양이 없는 터치 아이디 홈 버튼으로 한 번 진화를 했는데 아예 다음에는 없어질 위기(?)에 처했네요. 홈 버튼을 없앰으로써 얻을 수 있는 장점으로는 일단 기기의 하단부까지 디스플레이를 내릴 수 있어서 같은 사이즈로 더 큰 디스플레이를 장착할 수 있다는 점과 폰이 조금 더 얇아질 수 있는 점이 꼽히고 있다고 합니다. 그리고 다자인 측면에서도 좀 더 심플하고 애플(故 스티브 잡스)의 구미에 맞는 디자인이 나올 수 있다는 점도 지적이 되고 있습니다. 터치 아이디 기능의 칩을 디스플레이 기능의 칩에다 통합 시켜서 디스플레이 위에서 터치 아이디의 기능을 구현하게 되고 Force Touch 기능도 집어넣을 계획이라고 합니다. 하지만 이런 것들이 당장 다음에 나올 아이폰에서 구현되는 건 아니고 적어도 2017년 정도에나 나오게 되는 아이폰부터 적용이 될 가능성이 높다고 하네요. 정말로 아이폰에서 홈 버튼이 사라진다면 단지 디자인적으로 조금 변화가 일어났다기 보다는 마치 한 세대의 아이폰이 과거로 사라지고 새로운 세대의 아이폰이 출발하는 것과 같은 상징적인 의미가 있지 않을까 싶습니다.
