불과 2년전 백업 겸 서브로 맥북 에어를 샀었습니다. 연구용이라는 핑계도 있었지만, 사실 제쪽 연구가 거진 프로그램이 필요 없고 몸으로 때우는 3D 관련 연구고. 진지하게 고민해봐도 어디까지나 '감성' and 예뻐서 산다는 이유를 크게 벗어나지 못했습니다. 그래도 핑계거릴 찾아보기 위해 제가 자주 쓰는 연구용 프로그램을 한번 나열해봤습니다. Image J -윈/맥 Cell quest pro - 맥 (전용 맥 따로 있음) 포토샵 - 윈/맥 오피스 - 윈 학교 업무 프로그램 - 윈전용 학교 정보 프로그램 - 윈전용 인터넷 결제 - 윈 Flash 사이트 - 윈 한글/워드 - 윈 이렇게 정리하고 보니 '전혀 필요 없지 않나?' 라는 생각이 들더라구요. 나머지 연구기기랑 연관된 프로그램은 다들 전용 컴퓨터가 따로 있어서 제가 따로 구하고 이럴 필요는 전혀 없고.. 거의 대부분의 프로그램이 윈도우가 상위 호환을 이루고 있었습니다. 이렇게 객관적으로 분석하고 보니, 맥을 사는게 얼마나 쓸데 없는 일이고, 돈 낭비인지 깨달았죠. 차라리 서브용으로 시리즈3를 사는게 더 나을것 같았습니다. 그렇게 결심하고 다음날, 전 맥북을 질렀습니다. (......) 저도 바보 같았지만, 결국 지르게 되더라구요. 사과마크의 매력에 빠진 것인지.. 하여간 사고나서 후회했었습니다. 일단 가장 먼저 마우스의 감도 부분이 제일 큰 문제였습니다. 매직마우스가 좋다곤 하지만 실 마우스의 감도를 도저히 못따라왔습니다. 앱을 쓰고 감도를 인위적으로 올리기도 했지만, 지금도 어색하네요. iWorks로 작업할 수 있는 각종 키노트, 아무리 잘 만들어도 결국 프레젠테이션을 하려면 윈도우 ppt를 써야했죠. 무엇보다도 논문 작업이나 결과 정리를 하는데 있어서 작업 효율성이 윈도우 데스크탑을 도저히 못따라온다는게 컸습니다. 성능이 문제였나 싶어 선배교수님 중 한분이 맥북 프로를 쓰고 계시는 걸 빌려서 해봤는데도 여전하더라구요. 논문 뷰어 머신으로 사용하려고 해도, 결국 근본적으로 디스플레이 사이즈, 무게의 문제도 있고 해서 들고 다니기도 애매했습니다. 뷰어로서는 차라리 패드가 더 나았습니다. 그렇게 제가 맥북을 쓰면서 내린 결론은, 1. 이동이 잦거나, 꼭 맥만이 필요한 개발프로그램이 없는한 맥을 살 필요는 없다. 2. 근본적으로 랩탑이라 데스크탑과는 능률성이 차원이 다르다. 였습니다. 그리고 전 이제 2번 이유로 아이맥을 사려 하고 있습니다. (.......) 그리고 '기왕이면' 병에 걸려서 예산이 천정부지로 치솓고 있습니다. 집 근처 윌리스 매장을 들락날락 거리면서 항상 보는게 아이맥이었기에 한번 보러 갔었죠. 처음에는 21.5인치를 생각하고 있었는데, 논문 pdf파일이 크고 공백없이 환하게 나오는 27인치에 반해서 27인치를 지르려다가.. 옆에 있는 아이패드 에어 2의 레티나를 보고 다시 한번 그래, 사려면 레티나다! 5k 레티나 아이맥을 지르자! 싶었다가.. 이왕이면 ssd도 달고, 램도 추가하고, CPU도 올리고 하다보니 어느덧 견적이 400을 넘기기에 정신차렸습니다. 생각해보면 예쁘다는거 빼면 진짜로 아이맥 살 필요가 없거든요. 그렇다고 애플팬이냐 하면 또 애매한게.. 폰은 폰이고, 컴은 컴이라는 사고를 가지고 있어서 아이튠즈 동기화가 미친듯이 싫습니다. 그런데 어느세 제 주위를 둘러보니, 아이폰 6, 패드 3, 에어가 자릴 잡고 있더군요. 하다못해 제 이어폰도 beats 사의 겁니다. 네 애플이 인수하고 매장에서 파는 그거요. 그리고 지금 아이맥이 강렬하게 지름신의 유혹을 보내고 있네요. 무섭다. 애플!
