안녕하세요. 피지알에서는 눈팅만 하다 건너왔습니다. 첫 글로 가입인사만 딸랑 쓰는 건 예의가 아닐 테고 무얼 쓰면 좋을까 싶다가 '그래도 다양한 주제를 다루는 종합 커뮤니티이니 내가 좋아하면서 남들한테도 유익할 만한 글을 하나 써보자'라는 생각에서 제가 좋아하는 축구 이야기 하나 써봅니다. 저는 축구라면 정신을 못 차리는 인간입니다만 그중에서도 특히 즐겨보는 게 독일축구입니다. 분데스리가라는 이름은 군대스리가부터 해서 널리 알려졌긴 합니다만 독일축구는 인기도 많지 않고 꽤 마이너한 편이죠. 어느 정도냐 하면 축구팬들에게 거의 신앙처럼 여겨지는 한준희 해설위원마저 분데스리가에 대해서는 명쾌함을 주지 못합니다. 분데스리가 해설들도 다들 타리그를 중계하다가 분데스리가로 투입된 지라 전문성을 기대하기 어렵고요. 다시 말해 국내 축구계에는 분데스리가 전문가가 없습니다(물론 차범근-차두리 부자가 있습니다만 경험과 지식은 별개기도 하고 칼럼니스트나 해설이 아닌지라 여기서 말하는 전문가와는 개념이 좀 다르고요). 몇 년 전에 제가 타 사이트에 썼던 글을 어떤 분이 피지알로 퍼가셨던 적이 있습니다. 거기서 신명 나는 키배가 벌어졌는데 그 가운데 아 이게 아닌데... 싶은 게 꽤 있었거든요. 저는 눈팅족이라서 아이디가 없으니까 끼어들지도 못하고 뒤늦게 가입해봤자 바로 글을 못 쓰니까 그냥 방관하고 있었는데 꽤 답답했었죠. 아무래도 분데스리가 팬덤 자체가 작다 보니 다양한 커뮤니티를 돌아다니는 사람들이 일일이 퍼가는 경우가 아니고선 정보가 밖으로 나가지도 못하고 덕분에 왜곡된 정보가 많이 돌아다니는 거죠. 서두가 길었는데 오늘 제가 소개할 것은 분데스리가의 선수랭킹, 그중에서도 가장 유명한 키커의 평점과 랑리스테입니다. 키커는 독일에서 가장 유명한 축구 언론입니다. 창간한 지 거의 100년 다 됐고 유럽 축구 언론협회인 ESM의 창립멤버입니다. 보통 전형적인 타블로이드인 빌트와 대비를 이루는 데 정말 심하게 진지한 편입니다. 어느 정도냐면 작년에 브라질을 7:1로 이겼을 때 다른 언론들은 교체 투입된 선수들까지 최고평점을 뿌렸지만, 키커는 원칙대로 평점 매겼죠. 평점의 역사도 수십 년이고 선수랭킹을 만든 지도 이제 60년입니다. 그 전통이 있는지라 많은 이들이 이를 기반으로 논의하죠. 물론 논란은 있습니다. 1-6으로 점수를 매기는지라 현지에서는 주사위 던져서 매기냐는 식으로 까기도 하고요. 이건 키커가 스탯을 별로 신경 쓰지 않으며, TV 중계로는 눈에 잘 띄지 않는 오프더볼과 선수들의 실수를 많이 신경 쓰기 때문에 직관적인 것과는 거리가 먼 평가를 하기 때문입니다. 1-6을 간단하게 설명해보면 1은 해트트릭이라든지 정말 최고의 활약을 한 선수가 받습니다. 1.5만 해도 대단한 활약으로 경기를 쥐락펴락한 겁니다. 2는 대개 무난히 MoM이 받는 평가고 2.5면 아 이 선수 오늘 잘했다 소리 들어도 됩니다. 3이면 잘했는데 뭔가 좀 아쉽고 밋밋한 선수가 받습니다. 3.5는 그냥 평이한 수준입니다. 4부터는 이제 부정적인데 딱히 잘한 것도 없고 팀에 별 기여한 게 없는 선수들이 받습니다. 4.5면 못했다는 소리 들어도 됩니다. 5는 많이 못해서 팀 내 최악의 평점인 경우가 많습니다. 5.5는 경기 말아먹은 수준으로 못한 거고 6이면 경기 보는 사람 입장에서 쌍욕이나 파안대소가 나오게 만드는 수준이라고 보시면 됩니다. 과거에는 키커가 시즌 베스트11을 뽑을 때 주간 베스트11 선정횟수로 정했는데 지금은 포지션별 평점 1위를 뽑습니다. 평점순위는 전체 경기의 절반을 소화한 선수까지 포함됩니다. 극단적으로 전반기 버닝하고 후반기 1경기도 못 나온 선수가 전체 1위가 될 수 있는 거죠. 실제로 몇 년 전에 십자인대 부상으로 후반기 1경기도 못 뛰고 전체 평점 1위 차지한 선수가 있었고요. 그래서 평점 순위를 그냥 보지 마시고 출장경기 수, 평점을 받은 경기 수를 참조해서 보시는 게 좋습니다. 마치 야구에서 비율스탯을 볼 때 이닝/타석을 보는 것과 마찬가지죠. 또한 평점 자체의 맹점인 기복의 문제로 더 뛰어난 선수가 꼭 더 높은 평점을 받지는 않습니다. 그리고 무엇보다 중요한 게 키커 평점은 포지션별로 따로 봐야 합니다. 대체로 골키퍼 > 수비수 > 미드필더 > 공격수 순으로 평점을 후하게 주기 때문에 어지간하면 최상위권은 다 키퍼가 차지합니다. 지금이야 좀 흔해졌지만 한때 필드플레이어 평점이 골키퍼보다 높으면 엄청난 활약을 했다고 다들 난리였을 정도로요. 득점왕 차지한 A급 선수가 리그 하위권 골키퍼보다 평점이 나쁠 때도 있죠. 그렇기 때문에 어지간하면 포지션 내에서 비교하는 게 좋고, 공격수가 미드필더나 수비수보다, 미드필더가 골키퍼보다, 이런 식으로 더 평점이 짠 포지션의 선수가 후한 포지션의 선수보다 평점이 높을 때 추켜세우는 용도로는 괜찮습니다. 키커 말고도 평점 매기는 곳으로 빌트와 SPOX가 있는데 빌트는 요새 좀 진지하게 주긴 하지만 본질적으로 타블로이드인지라 즉흥적인 평가를 하는 편이어서 썩 믿을만하지는 못합니다. 개인적으로는 키커가 비교대상이라 그렇지 타리그의 어지간한 언론들하고 비슷한 수준은 되는 거 같다고 봅니다만 아무튼 키커 때문에 잘 인용되지 않습니다. 대신 경기 끝나고 며칠 기다려야 하는 키커와 달리 끝나자마자 바로 나오는 시간이 장점이죠. SPOX는 평점 자체의 신뢰도가 특별하지도 않고 찾아보는 게 되게 불편해서 언급이 잘 안 됩니다. 그러니까 경기 끝나면 빌트 평점 보고, 며칠 뒤에 복기 잘 된 키커 평점 보는 경우가 지배적이죠. 평점에 대한 얘기는 이거면 충분할 듯 싶고 이제 제가 정말 소개하고 싶은 랑리스테에 대해 얘기해보죠. 랑리스테는 원래 랑리스테 데스 도이첸 푸스발스의 줄임말로 그냥 쉽게 말해 독일 축구 랭킹입니다. 분데스리가의 탄생 이전인 60년 전부터 이어져온 것으로 반시즌 단위로 포지션별로 선수의 등급을 나누고 다시 순위를 매기는, 그야말로 전형적인 선수랭킹입니다. Weltklasse(월드클래스), Internationale Klasse(국제적인 수준), Im weiteren Kreis(리그 내에서 경쟁력이 있는), Blickfeld(눈여겨 볼만한) 이렇게 총 4단계로 나뉘는데 보통 WK/IK/K/B로 줄여쓰며 B는 순위 없이 알파벳순입니다(과거에는 몇번 순위 매긴 적이 있습니다만 아주 옛날입니다). WK는 정말 세계 최고 수준, 어느팀을 가도 주전을 차지할 역량이 있는 선수에게만 줍니다. IK는 리그 탑플레이어입니다. K는 말이 리그 내에서 경쟁력이 있는 거지 이 정도만 되도 리그에서 어느 정도 알아주는 선수입니다. B는 대개 기복 심했던 경기력 좋은 선수나 돋보이는 유망주가 받고요. 이게 왜 이렇게 짜냐면 저 K가 리그 내에서 경쟁력이 있다는 건 의역이고 원래 의미는 '더 확장된 수준'이란 의미입니다. 정확히는 독일 국가대표팀의 비주전급 선수로 뽑힐 자격이 있는 선수라는 소리입니다. 과거에는 독일대표팀 얘기까지 붙어있던 걸 너무 길다고 잘라내서 지금처럼 모호한 의미의 용어로 쓰고 있는 거죠. 다시 말해 K면 독일 대표팀으로 뽑힐 수준이고 IK면 월드컵 같은 국제대회에서 맹활약할 수 있는 선수라는 소리입니다. 기준 자체가 까탈스러우니 평가도 무시무시하게 짭니다. 유로2008 준우승할 때 독일대표팀 주전 중에서 WK는 없었고 IK조차 딱 1명 있었습니다. 그리고 어제 나온 골키퍼 순위에서 노이어가 실수 좀 했다고 월드클래스 못 받았습니다. 하하하... 평가 대상은 독일 국적이거나 분데스리가에서 뛰고 있는 모든 선수로 9경기 이상 키커로부터 평점을 받은(30분 이상 출장한) 선수입니다. 원래는 평가기간에 있는 경기의 절반이었는데 작년에 있었던 티아구의 출장경기수 논란 때문인지 이번시즌부터 기준이 엄청 낮아졌습니다. 처음 등장할 때는 오직 독일 선수만 매겼으며 해외에서 뛰는 독일 선수는 평가에 포함시키지 않았습니다. 예외적으로 월드컵이나 유로(1984년부터)가 있을 때의 국가대표 선수에 한해서 평가에 포함시키다가 90/91시즌부터 해외에서 뛰는 독일인이라는 범주로 평가하고 있죠. 외국인 선수는 70/71시즌부터 분데스리가의 외국인이라는 카테고리로 포지션 불문하고 묶어놨다가 88/89시즌부터 독일선수들과 같이 포지션별로 평가하게 됩니다. 그러니까 차범근의 선수랭킹을 나열할 때 공격수가 아니라 외국인으로 순위 매겨놓은 거죠. 이 평가는 반시즌 단위로 자르기 때문에 1시즌 혹은 1년 단위 평가보다 합리적입니다(옛날에는 1년 단위도 있었습니다만 반시즌으로 정착한지 오래입니다). 리그, 컵, 대륙대회, 국가대표 경기를 모두 반영하며 선수의 네임밸류와 커리어를 무시하고 순수하게 현재의 활약상만 놓고 평가합니다. 그래서 웬만큼 축구 봤다 싶은 헤비축덕들도 이름 잘 모를 선수가 WK를 받은 적이 있는가 하면 어지간한 사람들이 다 알법한 레전드급 선수들이 WK를 못 받기도 했고요. 예를 들어 90년대 중반부터 약 10년간 분데스리가 최고의 공격수였던 에우베르가 WK를 받아본 적이 없습니다. 예전 기록 보면 발롱도르 탑10에 들었던 선수에게 WK를 안 준 적도 있으니 말 다했죠. 대신 그만큼 냉혹한 평가이니만큼 신뢰도가 올라간다고나 할까요. 평점처럼 이것도 발표 때마다 논란이 있기는 한데 그래도 주목도가 굉장하며 발표할 때마다 독일축구 게시판에 바로바로 올라오고 심지어 우리팀 선수 좋은 평가 받았다고 자랑하는 클럽들도 있습니다. 듣보잡 클럽도 아니고 독일의 왕자 바이언이 WK 많이 나왔다고 홈페이지 메인에 자랑했을 정도. 또 하나의 의의라면 분데스리가의 전술사를 살펴볼 수 있다는 겁니다. 포지션별로 선수를 나누는데 시대에 따라 이 분류도 달라지거든요. 예를 들어 7-80년대에는 리베로라는 분류가 따로 있었고, 60년대 중반부터 80년대 초반까지는 모든 미드필더를 하나로 묶어서 평가했었습니다. 그런가 하면 레프트윙과 라이트윙을 따로 평가하기도 했었고요. 이런 식으로 랑리스테의 포지션 구별만 파악해도 포메이션의 변화와 함께 개략적인 분데스리가의 전술의 흐름이 보이는 거죠. 경기를 많이 찾아보기 힘든 옛날 선수들의 구체적인 포지션까지 찾아볼 수 있는 건 덤이고요. 아 이건 어디까지나 1부리그인 분데스리가 얘기고 2부리그와 3부리그도 랑리스테가 존재합니다. 그쪽은 H(Herausragend, 돋보이는)라는 등급으로 순위를 매기고, 1부리그와 마찬가지로 순위 없는 B까지 해서 2등급으로 나뉘는데 보통 2부리그 승격팀이나 2부리그에서 1부리그로 이적하는 선수 볼 때 쓰죠. 옛날에는 2부리그에 B만 있었는데 나중에 H가 추가된 겁니다...라지만 사실 이쪽은 별로 관심을 못 받고 하부리그 클럽의 팬포럼에서 찾아볼 수 있습니다. 분명 키커도 주관적으로 평가하는 거고 축구선수 출신인 키커의 칼럼니스트들도 '나라면 순위 이렇게 뽑겠다'라고 부연설명을 덧붙이기도 합니다. 그러나 수십 년에 걸쳐 이어져온 전통도 있고 나름대로 합리적이라서 예외적인 몇몇 경우를 제외하면 대체로 수긍할만한 편이라고 봅니다. 처음에는 어? 왜 이렇게 했지? 싶다가도 키커의 코멘트 보면 납득하게 된다고 할까요. 개인적으로는 키커의 축구관이 마음에 들어서 키커의 평가도 신뢰하고 자주 인용하고요. 해외에서는 사실상 시즌 결산이라고 할 수 있는 랑리스테를 두고 논하는 경우가 많은데 우리나라는 아직 평점 위주로 얘기하는 경우가 많습니다. 랑리스테가 알려진지 얼마 되지 않았기 때문이겠죠. 누가 더 뛰어난지 논쟁하는 건 스포츠에 내재된 본능적인 즐거움일 겁니다. 이런 순위놀음도 있구나... 이런 재미도 있구나... 하고 즐겨보는 건 어떨까요? 따끈따끈한 14/15시즌 후반기 골키퍼/중앙수비수 평가를 소개하면서 글 마칩니다.
