https://www.facebook.com/suhgan/posts/10207634631361840 월말인데 돈이 없다. 돈을 벌어야겠다. 사실 나는 직장이 있고 내 직장은 락앤롤밴드다. 존나 좋은 노래를 만들어서 그걸 무대에서 존나 쩔어주게 연주하는게 나의 본업. 그리고 나는 내 일을 존나 잘한다. 내가 일을 하고 있는 걸 보는 사람들은 모두들 감탄을 하고 만족해한다. 나는 내 직업을 사랑하고 제8극장을 평생직장으로 생각하고 있다. 내 직업으로 돈을 버는 방법은 사람들이 우리 음악을 돈주고 구입해서 듣거나 우리 공연을 보러 오는 것. 내가 일을 잘해서 그 사람들이 만족했으면 계속 돈을 쓸 것이고 그렇지 않으면 금방 발을 끊을 것이다. 근데 나는 정말로 일을 존나 잘한다. 근데 우리가 돈을 존나 못버는 건 별로 비밀도 아니다. 사람들은 우리 공연을 보기 위해 15000원에서 30000원 정도의 돈을 지불한다. 그동안 일을 잘했는지 요즘은 예전보다 우리 공연을 보러 오는 사람들이 많아졌다. 어떤 사람들은 거의 매번 오는데 그런 사람들은 한달에 우리 공연을 보기 위해 거의 20만원정도 쓰지 싶다. 이 돈들을 그냥 내 계좌로 바로 받으면 이걸로 월세도 내고 하겠지만 이게 그런 시스템이 아니다. 어떤 시스템이냐 하면 클럽에서 공연하고 사람들이 많이 오면 클럽이랑 우리랑 돈을 나눠갖는다. 요즘은 사람이 많이 오면 15만원 정도의 몫을 챙긴다. 그러면 공연이 끝나고 나서 '오늘 얼마들어왔어?' '15만원' '오 존나 많네' 이런 대화들을 한다. 제비다방처럼 클럽이랑 돈을 안나누고 밴드가 다 갖는 시스템에서는 37만원이 들어왔다. 평소보다 많이 번거라 카드값내는데 보탰다. 클럽은 술도 팔아서 돈을 벌고 여러 팀이 공연을 하고 그 중에는 우리보다 인기 많은 밴드도 많기 때문에 클럽은 우리보다 돈을 존나 많이 벌어야 할 거 같지만 누가 더 망하기 직전인가 경주에서 클럽이 이길지 우리가 이길지 모르겠다.클럽은 우리보다 유지비가 훠얼씬 많이 든다. 홍대 음악가들의 추억과 역사가 깃든 소중한 장소들이 경영난으로 많이 문을 닫았다. 내년 3월이면 롸일락도 문을 닫는다. 씨발 프리버드가 문을 닫았다고.. 바다비도.. 씨발 쌈지도 없어졌다고.. 이러다가 빵이나 드럭이나 타나 에프에프가 없어지는 꼴을 볼지도 모른다. 그런데 요즘은 sns가 있어서 공연을 보러 오는 사람들의 일상도 좀 알 수 있는데 그 사람들도 가만보면 다 가난뱅이들이다. 그 사람들 일주일 내내 아침에 출근하고 야근하고 그러다가 주말에 공연보러오거나, 학생들은 용돈이나 알바해서 번돈 아끼고 모아서 우리한테 쓴다. 어떤 사람들은 돈이 모자라서 정말 듣고 싶었던 곡을 놓쳤다고 아쉬워한다. 어떤 사람은 공연을 보기 위해 밥값을 아끼려고 편의점에서 간단한 음료수랑 스낵으로 배를 채운다. 존나 부담스러울텐데 그만큼 우리가 일을 잘해서 계속 돈을 쓰나보다. 2만원으로 존나 맛있는 외식 하는 것과 우리 연주를 듣는 경쟁에서 우리 연주가 이겼나보지 뭐. 사람들이 이렇게 돈을 모아서 클럽과 우리에게 갖다 주는데 왜 클럽도 우리도 거지냐하면 그건 월세를 내야하기 때문이다. 우리처럼 자기 일을 잘하는 사람들이 무대에서 연주를 하고 고작 십몇만원 받는 건 사실상의 재능기부니까 우리도 월세를 같이 내고 있는 셈이다. 클럽을 운영하는 사람들도 노동하는 양에 걸맞는 수입을 전혀 못챙겨가고 있으니까 그 사람들도 자비로 월세를 내고 있는 셈. 일주일 내내 일하고 있던 사람들과 공연을 볼 돈을 알바를 통해 마련하고 있는 애들, 현관앞에서 오만원정도 건네주는 엄마들. 클럽 사장들. 밴드들. 우리모두가 똥꼬 힘 바짝 모아서 다 같이 월세를 내고 있는 거다. 근데도 씨발 클럽들이 망한다. 월세가 너무 비싸서. 공연을 보러 오는 사람들, 클럽을 운영하는 사람들, 음악가들. 우리가 왜 다 같이 월세를 모아 내고 있는 뻘짓을 하고 있냐하면 우린 모두 서브컬처를 존나 사랑하는 사람들이기 때문이다. 이건 어쩔 수가 없다 우린 사실상 이런 사람들로 태어났다. 처음 서브컬처를 만나게 된 시기는 각자 다르겠지만 대부분 중학교, 고등학교 어디 쯤일 거고 무당들이 신병에 걸리듯이 그 시기에 정해져버린 것. 넘나 운명인것. 그런데 서울 정도 되는 월드클라스 대도시에는 이런 서브컬처 집단들이 있어줘야 체면이 선다. 솔직히 남한은 우리들이 (밴드뿐만 아니라 우리 모두)있어서 간신히 체면 세우고 있는 줄 알아야 한다. 도쿄,뉴욕,런던,파리 같은 도시들과 같은 줄에 서려면 우리 같은 애들이 있어야 하는 법이다. 우리가 모여서 놀고 있으면 솔직히 좀 잘은 모르겠는데 뭔가 폼나고 멋있어 보이기 때문에 우리가 노는 동네로 사람들이 모인다. 왜 폼이 나고 멋있어 보이냐 하면 딱히 돈이 되는 것도 아닌 일에 목을 매면서도 똥줄 안타하고 있는게 존나 있어보이고 더 저열하게는 도쿄,뉴욕,런던,파리 같은 도시들과 같은 줄에 서있는 기분이 들기 때문이다. 그랬더니 우리가 모여 있는 곳에는 월세가 오르고 그럼 당분간 다 같이 똥꼬 힘 빡 주고 월세 내다가 쫒겨나다시피 다른 동네로 간다. 예전엔 신촌도 예술가들이 돌아다니던 동네였다. 이젠 홍대도 건대 앞이나 다를바 없어졌다. 이렇게 계속 옮겨가는 것도 서울 정도되는 대도시를 도쿄,뉴욕,런던,파리와 같은 줄에 서있게 할 수 있는 임시방편이긴 한데 이 임시방편의 단점은 역사가 생기지 않는 것. 역사가 생겨야 그 때부터가 진짠거다. 30년대 예술가들이 살던 동네에서 커피 마시고 돌아댕기는 폼이 나야 그 때부터가 진짜인 것. 우린 식민지로 수탈당하고 내전겪고 군부독재 겪고 하느라 뒤늦게 시작했지만 이제 그래도 슬슬 몇십년이랍시고 부풀려볼 수는 있는 정도가 됐는데 다 같이 똥꼬에 힘 빡주고 월세를 모아 내는데에도 한계가 있어서 많은 사람들이 지금 상황을 비관적으로 보고 있다. 사실 한국은 똥꼬에 힘 빡주고 몰아주는 걸 존나 잘해온 나라다. 자식 중 한명한테 가문의 운명을 걸고 똥꼬에 힘 한번 빡 줘서 유학보내주던 나라 전체가 똥꼬에 힘한번 빡 줘서 서울이라는 대도시를 만들어냈다. 몇번 재미를 보더니만 문화에도 그런식으로 투자한다. 똥꼬에 힘 한번 빡 줘서 몇십억 들여서 한강에 오페라 하우스를 만든다던가 하는 식. 문화에도 힘을 주려고 하는 이유는 그래야 격이 살고 체면이 살아서 도쿄,뉴욕,런던,파리와 같은 줄에 설 수 있다는 정도는 알고 있기 때문. 이 시스템을 운영하는 자들은 그런 도시의 권력자가 되고 싶기 때문아니겠나. 제3세계 도시에 살고 있는 권력자라 비굴한거 싫다 아이가. 하지만 지금까지 솔직히 헛돈만 존나 썼다는 걸 모두가 안다. 그런데 돈쓰지 말고 우리 월세를 내줬어야한다. 진작에 그랬더라면 바다비도, 프리버드도 남아 있었을 거다. 남아있는 정도가 아니라 더 많아졌을 거다. 그러면 서울은 존나 근사한 대도시가 될 테고 내가 월말인데 이렇게 돈이 없지도 않았겠지. 핑크 엘리펀트 같은 근사한 밴드들이 많이 남아있었겠지. 그러면 이 모든게 특별히 부풀릴 필요도 없이 근사한 역사로 남아있었을 거다. 나는 그냥 락앤롤밴드를 하는 사람이지만 쓸때없는 똥투자대신 클럽 월세나 내주는게 훨씬 싸고 좋은 방법이라는 정도는 안다. 다 같이 이번달도 월세 잘 낼 수 있기를. 락앤롤. ────────────────────────────────────── 글에서 밝히고 있듯 인디밴드 제8극장의 멤버 분이 올린 글입니다. 작년 11월에 올린 것으로 뜨는데 오늘 우연히 다른 커뮤니티에서 읽고 찾아 긁어 왔습니다. 여기 올라왔었을지도 모르겠네요. 사실 엠팍에서 이 글을 보고 가져왔는데, 댓글 보다가 암 걸려 사망하는 줄 알았습니다. 건물주도 그 건물 사기 위해서 노력한 대가를 지금 누리고 있는 것인데 왜 난리냐. 그리고 문득 내가 젊은 날의 그 건물주처럼 지금 산다고 쳤을 때, 그 나이 먹고 내 명의 빌딩을 가질 수 있을까 상상해봤습니다. 상상이 가지 않았습니다. 피케티 교수의 21세기 자본 이후로 이러한 논의들이 조금씩 수면 위로 올라온다는 생각은 듭니다. 88만원 세대 처음 읽었을 때 우석훈이 소득이 아닌 뜬금없는 부동산 이야기로 글을 시작해서 뭔가 했었는데, 이제 돌이켜 생각하면 나름 그 양반이 앞서 갔던 거구나 하는 생각도 해봅니다. 그 대척점에 서있는 인물이 아마 장하성이 아닐까 싶습니다. 소유 자본은 별로 중요하지 않고 소득 격차를 해소하면 모든 것이 해결할 것처럼 떠드는 건 뭐랄까..... 가진 사람들에게 면죄부, 혹은 알리바이를 뿌리고 다니는 것처럼 보였습니다. 언젠가 한번 그 양반 책을 도서관에서 빌려다 읽고 조목조목 까볼까 하는 생각도 했는데, 지금은 시간이 없다는 핑계가 있고 그 때 가서는 앎이 부족함을 이유로 또 재끼지 않을까 걱정합니다. 한 2년 전인가부터 돌아다니는 장하성 나온 다큐멘터리 짤이 있는데 거기에 대해 찬양만 일색으로 달리다가 어느 순간부터 '저거저거 지금 면죄부 뿌린다'라는 댓글들의 비율이 점차 높아지는 것을 보고 재밌다는 생각을 했습니다. 주변에 습관처럼 '인간 일반에 대한 희망을 버리되, 인간 개인에 대한 희망은 놓지 않는 것이 현명하다'고 떠들고 다니는데, 저런 걸 보면 집단에 대한 희망을 잡아야 할 건덕지가 있을 수도 있지 않을까 하는 헛생각을 또다시 하고 맙니다.
