2015년 자동차 업계에는 크고 작은 이슈들이 많이 일어났습니다. 그중에 제가 관심 깊게 봤던 것들을 위주로 몇가지 적어보도록 하겠습니다.  1. 폭스바겐 사태 - 디젤 게이트. 개인적으로도, 자동차업계에서도 올 해의 가장 큰 이슈가 아닐까 싶습니다. '댜스옷또- 볽스봑엔' 이라는 CF로 유명하고, 유수의 브랜드를 지니고 있는 폭스바겐에서 ECU S/W조작을 통해 기준치보다 배기가스를 낮게 배출한다고 인증한 후, 양산형 판매 차량에서는 처리 장치를 제대로 작동하지 않게 만들어 연비를 높이는 방법을 사용해 사태가 벌어졌습니다. 이 사건의 핵심은 폭스바겐에서 이러한 사실을 잘 알고 있었고 이를 의도적, 조직적으로 은폐하려는 것에 있었습니다. 이로 인해 폭스바겐은 수 조의 벌금을 지불해야 했으며, 전세계적으로 리콜을 진행해야 하는 상황이 일어났습니다. 폭스바겐은 마틴 빈터콘 CEO을 경질하는 한편 의도적, 조직적인 책임은 없었다라고 주장을 하기도 하였으나 이는 사실로 받아들여지지 않았습니다. 폭스바겐 사태는 아직 진행중이며, 그 여파는 점점 커질 것으로 예상됩니다. 폭스바겐은 그간의 모델들을 단종하며 캐시 카우가 될 수 있는 핵심 모델에만 집중할 것이라 했으며, 더 부과될 과징금으로 인해 람보르기니, 벤틀리 등의 럭셔리 브랜드를 매각할 수도 있다라는 이야기가 나오고 있습니다. 폭스바겐 사태는 기업의 도덕적 해이가 발생했을 때 어떠한 일이 일어나는지 잘 보여준 사례입니다. 특히 자국 기업의 도덕성을 중요시 하는 독일에서 이러한 일이 일어났다는 것에 대해 자동차 업계의 실망은 물론 독일 국민들도 실망감을 감추지 못했고 이를 성토하였습니다.  2. 루이스 해밀턴의 2연속, 3번째 F1 월드 챔피언 등극. 2015년 F1 월드 챔피언은 메르세데스의 루이스 해밀턴으로 결정되었습니다. 재작년에 이어 연속 챔피언이자 통산 3번째 챔피언으로 등극했습니다. 현역 드라이버중 세바스티안 베텔에 이어 가장 많이 챔피언을 차지한 드라이버가 되었습니다. 재작년에는 팀 메이트 니코 로즈버그와 치열한 경쟁을 했지만, 작년에는 비교적 손쉽게 챔피언을 획득했습니다. 메르세데스 머신 자체가 타 머신에 비해 뛰어난 성능을 발휘하기도 했고 루이스 해밀턴 특유의 저돌적인 드라이빙 (엄청나게 늦은 속도의 브레이크 등) 이 머신과의 조화를 잘 이뤘습니다. 월드 챔피언을 확정지은 후 시즌 막판에 니코 로즈버그가 분전을 했지만, 올해에도 루이스 해밀턴의 메르세데스 퍼스트 드라이버의 지위는 공고해보입니다. 규정이 바뀌더라도 이미 메르데세에는 로스 버그의 유산이 있기 때문에, 레드불을 제외하면 그 어느팀보다도 규정을 잘 회피(?)하는 머신 퍼포먼스를 낼 수 있을 것으로 보입니다. 그와 더불어 해밀턴의 드라이빙 실력 역시 뛰어나기 때문에 큰 무리가 없을 경우 3연속 챔피언이 될 가능성이 높습니다. 가장 큰 라이벌로는 시즌 막판 분전한 팀 메이트 니코 로즈버그와 페라리의 세바스티안 베텔이 있습니다. 니코 로즈버그의 막판 퍼포먼스는 레드불 시절의 세바스티안 베텔과 흡사할 정도로 압도적이었습니다. 많은 팬들이 이러한 퍼포먼스를 시즌 초반에 보였더라면 F1 최초의 부자 월드 챔피언 (케케 로즈버그 - 니코 로즈버그) 가 탄생할 수 있었다는 아쉬움을 가졌습니다. 루이스 해밀턴의 2연속 챔피언으로 인해 퍼스트 드라이버가 되기 힘들고, 루이스 해밀턴 위주의 머신 개량이 이뤄질 예정이기 때문에 올해 챔피언의 길도 험난하지만 시즌 막판의 퍼포먼스를 초반부터 잘 보여준다면 루이스 해밀턴을 견제할 가장 큰 라이벌이 될 것으로 보입니다. 페라리는 작년보다 좋은 머신을 선보였지만 지속적인 마이너 업데이트를 하고나서야 메르세데스에 비교적 근접한 퍼포먼스를 보였습니다. 그러나 머신 자체의 퍼포먼스로는 일반적인 상황에서는 도저히 메르세데스를 따라잡을 수는 없었고, 베텔 특유의 드라이빙을 통해 포디엄을 획득했습니다. 내년에는 페라리에서 전폭적으로 개발에 집중을 하겠다고 말한만큼 세바스티안 베텔의 퍼포먼스가 기대가 됩니다.  3. 람보르기니, 벤틀리 등의 고급 브랜드 SUV 시장 진출. 람보르기니, 벤틀리 등이 SUV 시장에 진출함을 알렸습니다. 럭셔리 브랜드에서 그간 컨셉트카 형식으로 SUV를 내놓기는 해놓았어도 SUV의 시장성을 낮게 보고 접근하지 않았습니다. 포르셰에서 먼저 대형 SUV인 카이엔을 출시했을 때 럭셔리 브랜드나 포르셰 매니아들은 '럭셔리 브랜드 가치를 낮게 하는 멍청한 짓이다', '포르셰 전통을 버렸다.' 등의 혹평을 했습니다. 그러나 카이엔은 적자에 허덕이던 포르셰를 구원해줬으며 현재 베스트 셀러군에 위치해있습니다. 이러한 포르셰 카이엔의 성공에 자극받은 람보르기니, 벤틀리 등도 SUV시장에 진출할 것을 알렸습니다. SUV 시장에 뛰어든 브랜드로는 벤틀리, 람보르기니 이외에 재규어, 롤스로이스, 마세라티도 있습니다. 위에 언급한 브랜드중 재규어를 제외한 나머지 브랜드들은 - 특히 롤스로이스 - 일반적인 고객을 타겟으로 하지 않고 소위 말하는 VIP 고객 시장을 타겟으로 할 예정입니다. 과연 포르셰의 성공처럼 다른 브랜드들도 성공할지 귀추가 주목됩니다.  4. 에어백? 노. 에어밤. 타카타 사태로 불리는 에어백 폭발 사태입니다. 타카타는 에어백 기준 세계에서 3위의 마켓 셰어를 가지고 있는 업체입니다. 올 해 타카타에서 일정 기간에 만들어진 에어백이 저속에서 갑자기 터지거나, 에어백 내부 지지대가 깨지면서 파편이 튀어나오는 등 운전자의 생명을 위협하는 일이 벌어졌습니다. 피해자의 진술을 통해 파편들은 운전자의 안면, 흉부쪽으로 튀어나오는 것으로 밝혀졌는데, 타카타에서 이를 고의적으로 은폐하려는 정황이 발견되어 더욱 큰 이슈가 되었습니다. 이로 인해 도요타, 혼다에서는 타카타 불신선언을 하며 더 이상 타카타 에어백을 사용하지 않겠다고 했습니다. 폭스바겐 사태와 마찬가지로 과실이 일어났을 때 기업의 도덕적 해이가 어떠한 일이 일어나는지 잘 알려준 사태라고 할 수 있겠습니다.  5. 줄스 비앙키의 사망. 작년 F1에서는 비극적인 사고가 일어났습니다. 2014년 일본GP에서 사고를 당한 줄스 비앙키가 약 9개월간 혼수상태에서 일어나지 못하고 결국 사망한 것입니다. 당시 일본GP는 태풍의 영향으로 상당한 악조건 속에서 치뤄졌습니다. 줄스 비앙키 사고 전 다른 사고가 일어났고 이를 정리하던 대형 크레인과 부딪혔습니다. 당시 줄스 비앙키의 속도는 140km였으며 머신이 완파되는 큰 사고였습니다. 줄스 비앙키의 사망은 1994년 레이스 도중 사망한 아일톤 세나 이후 약 20년이 지나 다시 일어난 첫 사망 사고입니다. 줄스 비앙키는 마루시아라는 열악한 팀 환경에서도 모나코GP에서 팀 첫 포인트를 안겨주는 등 뛰어난 퍼포먼스를 보이던 드라이버였습니다. 페라리의 차세데 드라이버로 손꼽히기도 했습니다. 이런 상당한 경쟁력을 갖춘 드라이버가 허무하게 세상을 떠난 것에 대해 다시금 명복을 빕니다. 번외 - 제네시스 고급 브랜드 발표 : 독일 3사와 경쟁을 하겠다고 하는데 과연..? - 고객과실!!고객과실!! 을 외치는 고급 브랜드 (BMW, 벤츠) : 불 나도 고객과실, 멈춰도 고객과실!!
