글에 스포일러가 들어있긴 하지만 스포일러 여부가 중요한 영화는 아닌 것 같습니다. 이건 톰 크루즈 영화에요. 그것도 '톰 크루즈 영화'의 시작을 알린 영화의 속편입니다. 톰 크루즈는 이번엔 세상을 구하지는 않지만 임무를 성공적으로 수행하고 무사히 돌아오고, 썸타던 여주인공과 데이트하면서 끝납니다. 톰 크루즈 영화 중 작중에서 사망하는 영화는 '콜래트럴'과 '작전명 발키리'정도가 생각나는데, 전자는 그의 커리어에서 특이하게 악역으로 나온 케이스고, 후자는 역사적 사실에 기반한 영화라 역사상 사실대로 나온 거죠. 영화를 보고서 든 생각은 007 스카이폴같은 느낌이었습니다. 원작 팬들의 추억을 기반으로 새로운 세대에게도 어필할만한 잘 만든 오락영화입니다. 톰 아저씨가 '오빠 아직 젊지?'라고 어필하는 듯한 장면이 있어 약간 민망하긴 했지만, 원작에 대한 추억을 가진 세대들에게 추억을 되새기게 하는 장치겠지요. 뭐 사실 톰 아저씨부터가 원작에 나왔던 다른 배우들에 비하면 훨씬 동안이라, 원작 여주인공이 아닌 다른 캐릭터를 만들어 썸타게 만들었으니까요. 약간 아쉬운 점은 (꼭 이 영화뿐 아니라 최근 후속편이 나온 수많은 할리우드 시리즈물에 대한 아쉬움입니다) 꼭 후속편 이야기를 풀어가는데 혈연관계에 집착을 하는 걸까 하는 부분입니다.(스타워즈 시퀄 시리즈, 크리드 등) 여기서도 부자관계와 그에 따른 트라우마가 나오는데, 이런 서사는 이젠 너무 흔하게 나와서 할리우드 창작자들이 너무 게으른 게 아닌가 하는 아쉬움이 듭니다. 그 외에는 오락영화로서 아주 만족스럽게 잘 봤습니다. 영화 시작 때 항모에서 끊임없이 비행기가 이착륙 하는데 BGM이 입혀진 장면부터 몰입이 되면서 왜 이 영화가 30여년 전에 센세이션했는지 알것 같았습니다. 전 아이맥스로 봤는데 개인적으로는 4DX가 좀 더 낫지 않을까 싶습니다.
