2018.3.17 클리앙 가상화폐당에 썼던 글을 이동해옵니다. 채굴의 전제조건은 우상향 믿음, 그런데 우상향을 믿는다면 왜 그냥 장기 투자를 하지 않나? 채굴의 가장 큰 딜레마는 정말로 시세의 우상향을 믿는다면 차라리 그냥 코인을 사는게 낫지 않냐는거에 대답을 못 한다는 것입니다. 채굴 커뮤니티에서든 어디에서든 이거에 답을 내려준 사람을 단 한명도 못 봤어요. 당연합니다. 답이 없는게 정답이니까요. 채굴을 시작할 때 분명 이런 착각을 한 사람들이 많을겁니다. '이게 이 판의 가장 근본적인거고, 실물자산이니 안정적일거 같고 망해도 중고로 되팔이 할 수 있을테니까 괜찮지 않을까?' 안 괜찮습니다. 여기에선 디테일까지 집어서 문제점을 지적하기보단, 큰 틀에서만 지적해보도록 하겠습니다.  채굴장은 단순 장기 투자에 비해서 알아야 할 것이 훨씬 많습니다. 수십 수백대에 달하는 장비들을 혼자 견적 짜고 정비하고 수리할 자신이 있으십니까? 부지 선정, 임대료, 각종 전기공사, 설비공사들에 대한 매몰비용, 공사기간, 구하기 힘들고 비싼 그래픽카드, 늘어나는 채굴 난이도, 전기세, 화재 위험, 도난 위험, 원금회수와 유지비의 충당을 위한 의무적인 매도로 인한 장기투자 불가, 수많은 코인들 중 POW 방식만 그 중에서도 자기 그래픽 카드에 맞는 알고리즘을 택한 코인만 캐야한다는 투자 분야의 제약, ASIC 이슈에 대한 대처, 국가의 간섭 .. 거기다가 채굴한 코인이 거래소에 상장되어있는지 아닌지 찾아보고 국내에 없다면 해외 거래소도 뚫어야한다는 조건도 있습니다. 만약 채굴을 접어서 정리해야 할 때가 되면 채굴기들은 엄청난 감가상각 때문에 되팔이조차 제대로 못 합니다. 현금을 쥐고 있으면 어떤 코인에든간에 투자할 수 있는 자유가 있고, 손해를 보더라도 유연한 대처가 가능합니다. 굳이 그런 기회를 채굴장을 차리는데 드는 비용과 시간으로 묶어야 할 이유를 모르겠습니다. 채굴의 장점이라고 내세우는 것은 프리마인 시즌에 특정 코인을 남들보다 빠르게 많이 캘 수 있다 정도입니다. 프리마인 시즌에 굳이 해쉬파워를 투자해야하는건 ICO에 들어가는거랑 별 반 다를 바가 없습니다. 초기 코인이면 상장되어도 가격도 쌀텐데 나중에 그냥 사면 됩니다. 오히려 상장조차 불명확한걸 캐야하는게 훨씬 큰 리스크가 아닙니까? 물론 채굴로 이득 보는 경우 있습니다. 만약 작년 10월에 이더리움 채굴을 시작했다면 나오는 코인 전량 모았다가 최고점 220만때 다 팔았다면 감가상각 감안해서 1억원 이상 투자한 채굴장에 대한 본전회수 5개월만에 가능했습니다. 하지만 바로 여기에 모순점이 있습니다. 언제 진입해서 언제 매도해야할지 그 시점을 읽어내어 판다는것은 결국엔 트레이딩의 하위호환 개념입니다. 트레이딩에 익숙하지 않아서 채굴을 할 수도 있습니다. 채굴자들 중에선 남들에 휩쓸려 매매를 할까봐 스스로 족쇄를 찬다는 이유를 드는 사람들도 있습니다. 채굴을 시작하면 기본적으로 1년 이상은 버텨야 하게 되니까요. 소위 '강제 존버'말입니다. 헌데 이거야말로 더 이해가 안 갑니다. 억 단위를 가지고 채굴에 뛰어들만큼 이 불확실한 시장의 근간을 이루는 분야에 뛰어들 정도의 확신이면 왜 그냥 그 돈으로 코인을 사서 1년 단위로 버티지 못 하시는겁니까? 채굴에 들여야 할 매몰비용 기회비용 감가상각 인건비 및 온갖 리스크에 대한 비용을 모두 그냥 코인을 사는데 투자하고 1년 단위로 버티는게 훨씬 이득입니다. 삼성전자 주식 1년씩 묵히자고 사는 사람들 많잖습니까? 단타 트레이딩을 하라는게 아닙니다. 채굴의 문제는 여기에서 그치지 않습니다. 대규모 채굴자들이 규모의 경제로 밀어붙여 개미 채굴자을 떨어져나가게 한 후 그들의 빈 자리까지 독점하는 현실을 보십시오. 이렇게 초기 물량을 쥐고 계속해서 독과점으로 코인을 생산해내는 채굴자들은 그들끼리 연합해서 비트코인 캐시 사태의 발단까지 주도할 수 있을 정도로 초거대 기업화 되어버렸습니다. 그리고 채굴자들은 이 기업형 채굴장들에서 자체적으로 개발해내는 ASIC을 안 살 수가 없는 구조가 되었습니다. 이건 결국 상대방들이 짜놓은 판에 발을 들인다는거에요. 전체 판으로 보면 ASIC 경쟁은 다 같이 죽는 길입니다. 판 짜놓은 사람만 배불리는거거든요. 모두 담합해서 매년 10억원을 100명 모두가 연간 1000만원씩 나눠가질 수 있게 해주겠다 이렇게 약속하고 굴러가던 판에서, 갑자기 강력한 누군가가 출몰해 '내가 8억원을 갖고 너네들을 모조리 도륙내도록 하지, 단 10명만 살려주고 그 10명에게 연간 2000만원씩 주겠다. 먼저 배신자가 될 10명 앞으로 나와'라고 하면 ... 모두가 담합해 그를 쫓아내는게 아니라 그의 선택을 받는 10명에 들려고 아귀다툼이 일어나요. 우지한은 사업 감각이 탁월했습니다. 이 간단한 원리를 시장에 적용시키면 노다지가 날 거란걸 초기에 궤뚫어봤어요.  ASIC 채굴기, 이게 바로 채굴 생태계를 망치고 있는 주범입니다. 옹기종기 금광에 모종삽 들고 캐고 있는데 옆에서 어떤놈이 전동암석파괴기구 갖고 다 갱도 다 뚫어버리면서 금맥 다 가져가버리는거죠. 채굴판에 뛰어든다면 저 기구 안 살 수 없게 만든겁니다. 금으로 된 족쇄를 만들어준거에요! 이걸 갖고싶어 노예들은 난리가 난거고. 내 금 족쇄가 더 좋다는걸 자랑하고 더 멋진 족쇄가 나오길 기다리는 지경에 이릅니다. ASIC으로 기존 GPU 채굴방식 몰살시켜놓으면 그 다음부턴 ASIC만 사서 써야합니다. '채굴 원가'로 지지선을 방어한다는 것이 사실은 웃기는 이야기입니다. 정말 종교적인 광신도들은, 3년 4년 전부터 모았던 채굴자들은 이미 수천 수만개의 코인을 갖고있고 이 때 당시의 원가는 지금 비트코인 몇백만원 가면 망한다 어쩐다 하는 가격에 비하면 한참, 한참 낮습니다. 그들에게 문제인건 기간이지, 순간적으로 내리꽂는 하락은 전혀 위협이 아닙니다. 심지어 이제 마진거래의 도입과 언젠간 생길 지수 펀드 등으로 인해 물량을 쥔 쪽에선 공급량 조절이란 측면과, 쌓아둔 물량, 이제까지 얻어온 수익으로 가격이 떨어져도 수익을 올릴 수 있는 구조까지 완성되었습니다. 이들은 절대로 손해보지 않습니다. 이미 판에서의 기득권이 되었기 때문이지요. 이제 남은건 적당히 중소형 채굴자들에게 당근을 주면서 환상을 깨뜨리지 않고 만들어진 성공 신화를 보여주며 저기까지 계속 달려야지! 라고 마차 끄는 말들에게 채찍질하듯 독려하는 것입니다. 그들이 포기하고 접고 나가면 빈 자리를 다시 매웁니다. 그리고 살아남은 중소형 채굴자들은 스포트라이트를 받고 선전도구로 사용됩니다. '우리 회사의 ASIC을 사라! 그러면 이들처럼 될 수 있다!'...라구요. 그게 채굴이던, 트레이딩이건 이게 이 판의 기본 논리입니다. 물론 트레이딩도 결국 큰 손 들 위에서 놀아나는건 마찬가집니다. 큰 손들도 더 큰 손에게 물리고 그러죠. 근데 그렇다면, 큰 손들이 손바닥으로 내려치며 우리 개미들을 압살하려 할 때, 기동성이라도 있어야 승부가 되지 않겠습니까? 그런데 왜 족쇄를 차는건지 이해할 수 없습니다. 채굴을 이제와 개인이 시작하기엔 초기에 비해 규모와 구도가 너무 바뀌었어요. 그럼 이 비합리적인 채굴은 대체 어떻게 생성된걸까요. 제 말대로면 아무도 채굴 안 해야 정상인거 아닌가요? 증강현실 게임으로서의 코인판 채굴의 시작은 서브컬처, minor한 miner들에 의해 시작되었습니다. 잊지마십시오. 그 유명한 마운틴 곡스는 TCG 카드를 거래하는 곳이었습니다.
