** 사실 이 글은 예~전에 썼던 겁니다. 그런데 뜯어고치기가 귀찮아져서 방치해놨다가 그냥 올립니다. 무슨 공이 있고 무슨 과가 있는지 간도특설대에 지원한건지 백선엽이 독립군을 때려잡았는지 한번 따져보자 해서 찾아봤습니다. // 백선엽은 그의 간도특설대 경력으로 '독립군 때려잡던 친일파'라는 비난을 받고 있습니다. 특히 간도특설대는 자원병으로 '독립군 때려잡는 일을 자원한 적극적 친일파'라는 비난이 많죠. 제가 역사에 해박한 사람은 아닙니다. 솔직히 말해서 백선엽이라는 이름도 pgr에서 눈시님 전쟁사 읽으면서 처음봤어요. 625에서 공이 컸다는 것도 그때서야 알게 되었죠. 하지만 아랫글에서 논쟁하면서 위키 잠깐 찾아본 것으로도 과연 백선엽의 공과가 과가 더 크다고 할 수 있나 싶은 부분이 많았습니다. 제 생각으로는 공은 크고 과는 그리 크지 않다고 봅니다만 비교할 수 없을 정도로 과가 크다는 분이 많더군요. 그래서 어떤 과가 있기에 그렇게 과가 크다는 것인가, 간도특설대의 행적을 보았습니다. 당장 백선엽은 자원병도 아니었습니다. 조금 더 살펴보니 그렇다면 백선엽에게 간도특설대의 악행- 특히 '독립군을 때려잡았다'는 부분에 많은 책임이 있다고 보기는 어렵지 않나 싶은 부분은 꽤 많았습니다. 그래서 그 짧은 수준에서 사실관계를 살펴보겠습니다. 틀린 부분이나 더 아시는 부분이 있으시면 댓글로 가르침을 주십시요. 저는 '백선엽의 공은 크고 과는 작다'는 답을 정해놓고 있는게 아닙니다. 새로운 사실을 알게되면 공과가 비슷하다, 과가 크고 공은 작다 라고 정확한 인식을 가질 수 있겠죠. 백선엽이 뭘했냐 미군이 다한거지라는 이야기를 많이 보았습니다. 사실 저도 625에 대해 막연히 가지고 있던 인상은 그정도였죠. 아는만큼 보인다고 하니 한번 보시면 좋겠습니다. '과는 크고 공은 적다'라고 말하려면 어떤 공이 있는지는 알고 이야기해야 하는 것 아니겠습니까? 그냥 625때 장군이었다는 것만 알고서도 그 공이 어느정도의 공인지 평가할 수 있다고 생각하십니까? 백선엽의 공에 대해서는 제가 백선엽이라는 이름을 알게 된 글을 링크하지요. 이 글만이 아니라 6.25.전쟁사 전반에 대한 이야기를 볼 수 있고, 조금더 검색하시면 우리나라 역사 전쟁사를 정말 흥미있게 볼 수 있는 연재글들입니다. 요즘은 연재가 뜸하셔서 아쉬울 따름이지요. https://pgr21.com/?b=8&n=38971 눈시님의 전쟁사는 정말 재미있고 유익합니다. 이 글들을 놓치면 인생의 손해입니다. 백선엽의 공은 이쪽에서 많이 찾아보실 수 있습니다. -- 간도특설대에 대한 이야기들을 보겠습니다. 주된 내용은 위키백과와 나무위키의 간도특설대에 대한 내용들입니다. 앞서 이야기했듯이, 틀린 내용이나 더 정확한 사실을 알려주실 분들은 댓글로 가르침을 주시기 바랍니다. 1. 자원여부 우선 '간도특설대에 자원했다'라는 부분부터 보겠습니다. 간도특설대는 조선 독립군과 중국인이 연계한 반일-반만주국 투쟁, 대표적 조직인 중국 공산당휘하의 동북항일연군의 활약으로 곤경에 빠진 만주국-일본 당국에 의해 1938. 설립되었습니다. 만주국의 참의원을 지낸 친일파 이범익이 '조선 독립군은 조선인이 다스려야 한다'며 설립하여 대대장 등 몇몇 직위를 제외하고 조선인으로 채워진 만주국군 소속으로, 예니체리와 같은 피정복민족을 이용한 부대의 일환이었죠. 각 일본에 전향한 러시아인, 몽골인으로 이루어진 부대와 같이 편제된 조선인 부대였습니다. 간도특설대는 일제 패망까지 7기에 걸쳐 병사를 징모하였는데, 전원이 지원병인 것은 1, 2기 뿐으로, 3기부터는 만주국 전체에서 징병제가 실시됨에 따라 병사는 대다수가 징집병으로 채워졌다고 합니다. 2기 자원병은 1940. 1. 모집하였고, 백선엽은 간도특설대에 1943. 2. 부임합니다. 사실 자원병은 '병사'로 자원한 자들이고, 백선엽과 같은 만주군 장교들은 애초에 '간도특설대'에 별도로 지원하는 것은 아니었습니다. 부임이 되는 것이죠. 이를 '만주군의 군관학교 입대'는 자원한 것이므로 '간도특설대에 자원한 것이다'라고 설명하기도 합니다. 그러나 그렇다면 만주군관학교에 입대한 것 자체가 적극적 친일이라고 이야기해야지, 간도특설대에 자원했다 라고 이야기하는 것은 공정하지 않은 서술이라고 생각합니다. 2. 간도특설대의 악행과 이력 간도특설대의 악행에 대해 먼저 알아보겠습니다. 간도특설대는 일반적인 일제 징용부대가 아니라 소위 독립군 때려잡던 친일파 자원병 부대이고, 그 행위가 실로 악랄했다는 점은 널리 알려져 있습니다. 그 악랄한 행위에 대해 더 자세히 살펴보지요. * 1939년 5월 특설부대는 일본수비대를 배합하여 안도현 서북차에서 야간 토벌을 진행하던 중 산림 속에서 불빛을 발견하고 체포를 하고 보니 산나물을 뜯는 부근 마을의 백성이었다. 그런데도 염천 대대장과 산천 중대장은 무고한 백성들을 죽여서 불에 태워버렸다.[4] 1939년 7월 1일 특설부대는 천보산 광산이 항일연군의 습격을 받았다는 급보를 받고, 도문 일본군 수비대와 협동 작전을 하여 천보산을 토벌했다. 교전 중 항일연군 전사 한 명이 희생되었는데 특설부대는 특설부대의 충혼비에 제를 지내기 위해 항일연군 전사자의 배를 가르고 간장을 꺼내 빈 통조림통에 넣었다. 그런데 그것을 메고 가던 민부가 허기를 달래려고 통조림인 줄로 알고 훔쳐서 먹다가 생고기인지라 버렸다고 한다.[4] 1941년 겨울 특설부대의 3개 중대는 원부시 대대장의 지휘 아래 안도, 돈화, 화전 등 3개 현에 대한 토벌을 진행, 제2중대와 기포중대의 3명 대원이 변복한 항일군 2명을 체포하였다. 하나는 제1중대의 취사반에서 잡일을 하게 하고, 하나는 기포련에서 말을 먹이게 하였는데, 취사반에 있던 사람이 도망을 한 것을 도목구에서 다시 붙잡아다가 부대를 명월구 공동묘지 앞에 집합 시키고, 총부의 부관 옥량 중위가 군도로 머리를 베고 시체 옆에서 목을 들고 기념 사진을 찍었다.[4] 1941년 1월 특설부대는 안도현 대전자에서 동쪽으로 약 30리 떨어진 산림에서 항일연군 여전사 4명을 체포, 압송 도중 강간을 시도하려다 실패하자 살해하였다.[5] 1942년 8월 특설부대 제1중대는 변의대를 조직하여 차조구에 가서 정보를 수집하는 중 논밭에서 일하는 농민 두 사람이 양민증이 없다는 구실로 형벌을 감행한 후 체포하였다.[5] •1944년 음력 7월 27일, 특설부대는 현지경찰과 합동으로 미윈 현 황거좡에 가 ‘식량 징수’(실제로는 식량강탈)를 하며 21명의 백성을 체포했다. 그중 한 농회 주임은 한달 동안 구금된 뒤 살해됐다. •1944년 9월, 특설부대가 스샤 진에서 30리 떨어진 곳에서 몽골 기병과 연합해 팔로군을 토벌 했으며, 쌍방 교전중 특설부대가 참패 했다. 특설부대는 돌아오는 길에 스샤 진 서쪽 20리 되는 부락에서 농가 20호에 불을 지르는 보복을 했다. 또 두명의 백성을 붙잡아 일본인 소노모토 유이치가 군도로 찔러 죽였다. •1944년 11월 5일 화이러우현 다슈이위(현재 베이징시 소속)에 주둔하던 만주군이 현성에 가 식량 운반을 하던 도중 팔로군의 습격을 받아 트럭 한 대가 소각되고 만주군이 몇 명 죽자, 만주군과 특설대 합동으로 일대를 토벌. 특설대는 현장 부근 마을에서 백성 두 명을 쏴죽이고 세명을 다치게 해 불구로 만들었다. 같은 날, 이들은 또 두명의 팔로군 제대 군인도 붙잡아 총으로 쏴 죽였다. -- 위 기록들은 '친일인명사전의 기록'이 위키백과에 기재되어 있는 내용들입니다. 병사까지 전부 친일인명사전에 오르기에 충분할만큼 악랄하고 끔찍한 만행들임에 틀림없습니다. 이들에게 살해된 항일무장세력과 민간인은 172명에 달하였으며, 많은 사람이 체포되거나 강간, 약탈, 고문을 당했고, 관내방면 석갑진에서 팔로군을 대상으로 36차례의 토벌을 수행하여 103명을 살해하였으며, 62명이 체포되었다고 합니다. 다만 1942.까지의 행적에 대해서는 악명에 걸맞는 '독립군 때려잡는' 끔찍한 행위들인데 반해, 1944.이후의 행적에서는 독립군이나 항일연군과 같은 이야기가 나오지 않음을 알 수 있습니다. '팔로군'이 등장하지요. 그 이유는, 간도특설대는 [1943. 12. 열하성(러허성)으로 이동]했기 때문입니다. 간도특설대의 악랄한 진압끝에 1941.을 전후하여 간도지역의 독립군 조직은 거의 궤멸되었습니다. 간도특설대의 주 토벌대상이었던 동북항일연군 또한 1941. 와해되어 1942 완전히 소멸하였고 잔존세력은 소련으로 도피하였습니다. 그리고 일제는 남방전선으로 일본군이 대거 이동하자 이를 보충하기 위해 만주국의 군대와 경찰병력을 열하성으로 이동하였고, 그 때 간도특설대도 이동하게 된 것입니다. 나무위키는 아래와 같이 서술하고 있습니다. '이에 따라 특설대 역시 기존의 독립군 토벌에 특화된 특수공작대 성격에서 소모품인 알보병으로 변화하게 되었는데, 1944년 철석부대 산하로 들어간 것이 그 상징적인 사건이다. 철석부대라는 것은 물론 만주의 국훈인 “철석신념, 철석기율, 철석훈련”에서 따온 명칭으로 1만5,6천의 보병, 기병, 전차 합동의 전투 부대로 만주군 내에서도 ‘만족, 몽골, 조선, 일본인’ 혼성 부대로 전공이 있는 우수부대에서 선발, 충당하여 중국의 정규군인 팔로군과의 전투에만 전념하였다.' 백선엽은 간도특설대에 [1943. 2. 부임]하였습니다. 간도특설대에 부임하기 전에는 자무쓰 부대에 배속되어 있었죠. 백선엽은 1941년 12월 30일 만주국 봉천군관학교를 제9기로 졸업하고 견습군관을 거쳐 만주군 소위로 임관했다. 자무쓰 부대에 배속되었다가, 1943년 2월 간도특설대로 전근하였습니다. 그래서 시기적으로 간도지역 항일 무장운동 소원해진 때여서 '조선 독립군'과 교전해보진 못했고 대신 러허성으로 이동하여 공산당 팔로군과 전투에 종사하였다라고 주장한다고 하죠. 이에 백선엽의 회고록에도 간도특설대로서 조선인을 토벌한 것을 인정하면서도 반성이 없고 말이 앞뒤가 안맞는다고 하는데, 회고록 내용은 이렇습니다. "내가 간도특설대에 착임하였던 1943년 초두에는 게릴라의 활동은 거의 봉쇄되어 있었지만 그때까지는 대단했다고 한다. 관동군 독립수비대와 만주국군은 1939년 10월부터 41년 봄까지 여기 동부만주에서 대규모의 게릴라 토벌작전을 수행하였다. 최전성기의 관동군의 위신을 걸고 철저하게 시행된 작전이었다. 그 중에서도 항상 대서특필할만한 전과를 올렸던 것은 간도특설대였다." ... "간도특설대가 소규모이면서도 군기가 잡혀 있어 커다란 전과를 올린것은 당연한 일이였고 간도특설대가 추격했던 게릴라 중에는 많은 조선인이 섞여 있었다. 한국인이 독립을 위해 싸우고 있었던 한국인을 토벌한 것이기 때문에 이이제이(以夷制夷)를 내세운 일본의 책략에 완전히 빠져든 형국이었다." ...
